Not a cool way to advertise. I guess your fishing buddies pay for the pleasure of your company.

Are you a licesnsed charter? I find that I cannot have you looking for paying "buddies" without, a: having a license, or b: having a decent website to promote your self ;) wink-wink, nudge-nudge...

Seriously, I would like to work with you if you are a licensed Captain and fishing guide with a good reputation. So tell us about yourself instead of trolling for hits on the website...

I am fully aware of laws relating to the charter fishing business and fish eye you assume wrong.
You do not see a link on purpose.
Circumstances have me offering this chance to none boat owners or others, if you charter people are threatened I am sorry.

pfb15,
I think the concern here is lack of insurance and lawsuits. It's only legal to share the cost of a trip, anything over that and you need a captains licence with the appropriate insurance. I don't know what your origional post was, but give the forum administrators a break, they spend their free time to keep this site going for the masses (free time is an oxymoron).

PB - not trying to bust your stones here but you are offering to take people out fishing for money, right? I feel that my responsibility to people that may view your post is to at least ensure that you are a licensed captain to take people out boatfishing when you charge money. Your home page says: Light tackle stripers, bluefish from famous Chatham, Cape Cod waters, with over 25 years experience.
Booking now for Live Herring fishing, May 1st - June 10th, 2002!
3 to 4 hour trips with a keeper (28"s) guarenteed or trip is FREE!
Commercial season discounts available! July----???!
Email for more information!

As far as advertising, we do have some people coming aboard that will pay a bit to advertise. That's what keeps the lights on (I'd be a philanthropist if I were RICH ;) ). In fairness to them, I don't think it's wise for you to toss up your link on your profile to attract business... Know waht I mean?

Thanks - you can e-mail (john@striped-bass.com) me if you want to discuss it offline, OK?

Well said, John, and everyone else. I am sure it is quite difficult keeping the site up and running (John is the server still on your kitchen table?). All kidding aside his posts of alledged free-fishing is like the page jumping web sites that pop-up on your computor screen right in the middle of some important web surfing. There are very many people who advertise on S-B.com that will truly resent this unabashed attempt at free advertising.
All the other ramifications (insurance, and so on) could be site threatening also. If John gives his O.K. to a charter service then one could assume John has checked the service out. If not S-B.com could suffer serious loss.
John are you fishing the Tri-State?

It is better to have fished and lost than never to have fished at all. "me"

What got you slammed for was the hook in the well presented bait. When someone comes here and says Fishing Buddy Wanted , you could have expected to get about ten invites from genuinely nice people who would have been your "Buddy". To open the thread expecting to find a good guy looking for a friend and then see an ad does tend to get people PO'ed.

My guess is a thread that said" Hi I'm so and so and run a charter service" would have slid by despite the advertising nature. Nobody here is looking for trouble in that way. However , to ask for fishing buddies gets to the heart of what this site is noted for. To be disappointed by someone looking for money when they posted as looking for friends is something that understandably gets people angry.
