Used to be there was a great spring mackeral run in the sound. You could go out and fish the scotty rigs, and get a ton. It was always a lot of fun and you could stock up on some chunk bait. I used to do this in the Bridgeport area many years ago. I haven't seen a mackeral, or even heard of anyone fishing for them in years.I'm wondering if they are just plain gone, or if they just aren't making their way to the western part of the sound? It would be a blast for the kids, cause it is total mayhem - and well kids love mayhem.Anybody have any info at all about the macs?

Billybob,

There generally is a good run off Gay Head in Martha's Vineyard towards the end of April and first week of May, then the dolphins come in and chase them away.

Geez...I would be surprised if they past you bye because the NJ boats still see them in strong numbers. One thing that we are noticing up here (Plymouth, MA) is that it the run gets earlier and earlier every year. Is there any chance that they go past CT before most people are in and ready?
