I have used slugos on 4 0z bucktail heads but was wodering if they make ball jigs that heavy or what would you use????

Hi Dave. The Do-it molds only go to 3 OZ on a ball jig. Somebody must have 4s but its not common that I see. The smilin bills go to 4 and 5. On the 3 OZ balls , we use 7 inch Fin S Fish and 8 inch curltail grubs Sometimes shad bodies to 9 inches. We backbounce them Kamikaze style.

On the smilin bills I like the curltails. Fully tied 4 OZ bucktail with the 8 inch curltail. I drift them out instead of backbouncing them kamikazee style.

My best trailer last year was the 7" Fin-s-fish on a 2 Oz. bullet jig. I got a mold for 2.5, 3, and 4 oz. bullets and one for shads in lighter weights. The trailers made by GS should work great for any jigs and I'm looking forward to testing them as I'm on his "Pro Team";)

While on the subject of trailers! Does anyone know of a good source of white grub/worm trailers in bulk quantities?

Nothin beats the old Uncle Josh pork rind. A jar will last a while if you put the strip back in the jar after use.In my opinion small plastics just don't hold up when fishing for Bass.I once saw an old timer who lost his last pork rind cut a piece of the elastic band off his underwear-it had pretty good action too!

Hi Saltheart,could you please elaborate on what you mean by" Kamikaazee Style". I would like to do some more canal fishing and have never heard of that. (I've had kamikaazie shots :D )

Bud8fan , Newport lures sells the curltails in bulk. It ends up about 25 cents apiece when you buy in quantity.

Bazza , does back bouncing ring a bell? That's what I mean by kamikaze style. If you don't recognize the term backbouncing , let me know and I'll explain.

Im not so sure that the old pork rinds are the best thing anymore.

I have used big fat 8 inch curltail grubs for sometime now and can say they work fantastic.They are easy to change, dont turn into shoe leather if you forget to take it off your jig,and they are cheap to buy in bulk or to make your own.

My color choices are fairly simple, Black on the dark nights and white on the bright nights,every now and then I will use red or bubblegum color on the dark nights.

As far as backbouncing,Its a term used more for boat fishing.You fish up tide and let your jig bounce along the bottom as you drift down tide.You basically do the same thing from shore when fishing jigs.Always cast up tide and let your jig hit bottom,keep a tought line so you can feel every inch of bottom.Remember if your not Losing jigs on the bottom ocasionally, your not fishing jigs right. They have to be on the bottom to fish right.Becoming very good at jigging in heavy currents takes time and patience.And trust me, it will try your patience.You will setup on many rocks and lose many jigs until you know the diffrence between a bass and a rock.I would suggest when starting to set up when ever that jig "stops"!! Could be a monster.

Next to Live eel fishing, I think that jigging deep inside inlets on moving water,is the best way to catch a true monster bass.

Incidently, I have leaned towards fishing the ball style jig more latley, especially in the channel at gallilie.That style really gets down fast.

One other trick that has been killer for me is to use a live eel as a trailer.I use the little pencil eels as trailers, fantastic results!

Ohh, SO Backboucing is to fishing parachutes or jigs from boats while Jigging is to fish bucktails, eelskins or ball jigs in the Ditch!!

Saltheart you gotta understand that when you use boat terminology some of us just don't get it!! :)
