I have the weight and the start of my leader about 12in each apart. So is this correct if I want the bait alittle off the floor of the river? Or should it be more like 2ft difference? In the beginning of the fishing season....Are the fish near the top? bottom? middle? everywhere?

tie barrel swivel to your line. tie 50# mono(or flourocarbon) leader to barrel swivel. tie snap to 50# leader. put 3oz white bucktail jig with white pork rind on snap.cast into moving water(jetty where river dumps into ocean). I see guys who have 30+ years of surfcasting experience and this is what they use almost exclusively.Watch and listen to the guys in your area that consistantly catch fish.get out on that breachway and enjoy the veiw(and leave the bait in the freezer!)
