Bill FlukinUki 01-02-2006, 11:30 AM What length and how much do you need? striperman36 01-02-2006, 11:38 AM I am in MA MAC 01-02-2006, 12:46 PM Downes and Reader in Stoughton ProfessorM 01-02-2006, 04:40 PM Dave do they have tiger maple too? Diggin Jiggin 01-02-2006, 04:44 PM P M, yes they do have that too. MAC 01-02-2006, 04:53 PM Dave do they have tiger maple too? Yes, they have quite a selection of hardwoods, lot of exotics too. nightfighter 01-02-2006, 05:21 PM I'm confused. You want maple for plugs or for jigs to hold materials steady on the drillpress, bandsaw or other powertool? If for a holding jig, take 1X stock and laminate/glue the pieces together. ProfessorM 01-02-2006, 05:33 PM Thanks guys striperman36 01-02-2006, 05:36 PM What is 1x stock? Do you just glue the pieces together with gorilla glue and the machine the correct jig? I have always had difficulty doing this with anything other than solid stock, hence my question. nightfighter 01-02-2006, 05:45 PM 1X stock is 3/4 inch thick. I prefer titebond three for gluing. Clamp overnight. I did this with oak for the rails on my tablesaw's movable caster system. What are you using this for again? Slipknot 01-02-2006, 05:53 PM how much do you need Bill? striperman36 01-02-2006, 08:18 PM I have 4 jigs to make for plugging, pen making and shaving brushes. All for drilling on my 12" drill press. If I am taking 1x stock I am looking 24 board ft 6" wide. The brush jig needs to be 2" minimum I also want to make a jig for grinding poppers with the #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& offered grinders so add another 12 board foot. Gorrilla Glue Slipknot 01-03-2006, 06:52 AM I don't understand why you want hard maple but if that's what you need, maybe an old piece of butcherblock countertop would do. striperman36 01-03-2006, 10:28 AM What you would make jigs out of? I don't like MDF etc. for that. I can't find other material that is stiff enough. Bill Slipknot 01-03-2006, 05:57 PM Bill, when I need to make a jig for around the shop, usually scrap birch plywood will do, maybe a few scraps of hardwood if needed also. There's nothing wrong with glueing up some thinner hard maple if you can't find it thick enough. I have some old butcherblock somewhere if you really need some. nightfighter 01-03-2006, 08:33 PM What slip said. I like poplar on a birch ply base. All from the scrap bin though. striperman36 01-03-2006, 10:40 PM you gotta have bought some wood to start making scrap outta. I have some 3/4 birch ply. but not much else. Some of us can't make dust for a living you know. :hee: Slipknot 01-04-2006, 08:29 AM I know :) i make boxes If you are ever down this way, come by and I'll hook you up. This Sat. I'll be heading over to M&D's striperman36 01-04-2006, 09:41 AM Okay, Where should I stop? PM me please nightfighter 01-04-2006, 06:41 PM Go buy the February issue of Fine Woodworking. Article on getting more out of your drill press is excellent. Auxiliary table design is all laid out for you. I am going to build one myself this weekend. T track slots for securing fence, hold downs, v-groove blocks for drilling eyes and bellies, and table will tilt for end grain and angled bores! This is a must see article for all. striperman36 01-04-2006, 11:08 PM Uh oh, Uh oh. Warning Will Robinson. Gotta go to Borders right NOW!!! And then Woodcraft!!!
