What are the benefits over a mono chrom, is it worth buying one? I already have a Garmin 192 mono, was thinking about a color.

The color really makes everything pop out at you. Go to west marine and ogle them, you'll see what I mean.

pfft.. they don't even hold a candle to color..
mine was an older furuno with a 10" screen. i think to get one that big now it's an arm and a leg.

think about a used one? seatronics in glostah has used comercial ones..

for bottom type, rocks sand etc.
even what fish type...
with bass, blues, tuna etc... bieng dark red to dogfish showing green.
i call it TV fishin'.
no contest!
get color, you'll never go back..
with the bronze thru hull too..:btu:

Well Mike since you mentioned fish finder, maybe I would upgrade that too....

MM I know what you mean, on those do the cans show up as red or green?

Yes Bill, Nav aids appear in their respective colors as they would on a NOAA chart. Color is sweet.:hihi:

If you're familiar with the waters you'll be boating, save the $$ and stick with the gps you've got, but when it's time to upgrade color is great option.

Color is nice for the reasons mentioned. IMO, color is more important in a fishfinder than in a chartplotter. Color in a fishfinder allows you to tell the size of the fish without regard to the size of the mark it makes. I've often moved around an area of feeding fish to zero in on the bigger one's (orange and red on my ff). It has to do with density that is amost impossible to discern with a monochrome screen.

Sounds like the color fishfinder is the way to go...
Mike I can put that post back up if you want, let me know.

sure put it back up.
i'd spend the money on a fishfinder first.
i never had more than a handheld gps.

The cans are green and the nuns are red. :)

I think I will stay with the GPS I have now which is a Garmin GPS Map 180.

I am thinking of upgrading the FF from a SeaView 1200 to a color.

What do you guys think of this unit.....

I use a lowrance 335, chartplotter/fishfinder Color (same controls)

I love it,

Very easy to use.

You can download off the lowrance site a simulator for your compuer.
This will let you try it, and see how the interace is.

I think that's 90% of a unit. If it is hard to find information, you will not use it.

Color Fishfinder, for sure, I have the digital raymarine.
That lowrance looks good.

As for the CP I have mono and its just fine.
Also depends on the $$$ you want to spend.

JMHO good luck,
V

104C. I think he said the transducer cost several hundred bucks. Can imagine what the FF cost's. We make most of the transducer housing's for WHOI and Benthos among others. Maybe I should get one from them. :bl:

That 104c goes for 1700 -2200 clams

Mike are both bumps left and right on the bottom fish??

thefishingfreak
01-06-2006, 11:42 PM
many $$$ clams.
thats why i mentioned an older used unit.

yep those two are fish. hard red bottom.
5 fish on the left. some are swimming up. some are swimming down.
two fish on the bottom, doing what? dunno but they stayed there for a few seconds.
two dogfish to the right passed bye quick..

remember that ain't a picture... thats what it saw 15 seconds ago..
gotta look at it as one verticle line at a time.
