So I just moved to Manchester by the Sea and am 2 tenths of a mile from Kettle Cove and connecting beaches. I look at the houses around my humble apartment and say....I should not be living here over and over again.
The spot is absolutely gorgeous and anticipation for next season started when I moved in.

Has anyone fished down there or near there?? Im guessing its pretty popular.

Mucho Dinero in that location. The owner of my Company owns a house up there. His house was on "This Old House" a few years back...the Place is Beautiful.

I live on the top floor of a house built in 1776. We joke its the house that freedom built. The ceilings are really low and taking showers are a challenge but it should all be worth it come spring :)

Oh and heat was included with the rent so id have to say it was a no brainer.

Funny you should say that.. There is a mansion in between white and black beach on little peninsula and whenever my gf and i go for a walk we always say we should bring them some cookies. I guess im closer to the white beach side... is that off limits for fishing? I have not seen any signs...

That's pretty tough to do through that section, Bob cause there are places (sheer cliffs) you just cannot traverse without being well above high water and on private land.

My brother-in-law lives on Masconomo Avenue or Street just up from the center of town. He sold the Victorian out front, three stories and about 100' long, and moved into the carriage house out back while he's building on the adjacent lot. There is a private walkway from the house next door all the way to Singing Beach. He's a good kid, big job and a heart of gold. Nice neighborhood. First time I pulled into the driveway I just started laughing the friekin house was so big. He has a 25' parker that he keeps in Beverly because his name has yet to come up for a space in the harbor downtown. He bought all kinds of fishing equipment and doesn't know how to fish. He needs someone in the area to show him the ropes for around there in the worst way. His wife takes the boat out when he is not around and does better at it than he does. She goes all over, Boston Harbor and further.
Dad Fishermen are you talking about the house on the harbor that this old house filmed putting on a whole new second floor. If your standing over by the public parking lot and the picnic benches its to your left. Even the owner joked that they bought the house for two million and oput five more into it just for the show.

Even knocking on doors BEFORE the season to show you're a commited sportsman and offering a meal off first keeper has been known to work. Visit the police station for their take as well. Sugar and honey, dude, and reap what you sow.

good advice... and we were already talking about getting kayaks since we are so close to the beach.

Do you guys suggest a salt water kayak? I know that sounds dumb but the only time ive ever been out kayaking was in fresh water kayak in salt water... it was a blast.

There's a very active group of guys who kayak on the North Shore. They're split 50/50 in both sit in vs sit on top yaks. I used a 12' sit in this summer and fall and will upgrade to a 14' sit on top this spring.
I think it will give me more flexibility in the estuaries and will make it easier to launch and land in the surf. The trade is that I may get a bit wetter launching in the surf and you store your equipment differently. The best bet is to try out a few models as demo's or see if you can find someone who will let you give their yak a paddle. Here's great link to a local yak site. I've met and fished with a bunch of these guys. Very friendly and very helpful.

last spring when i first started fishing from the shore.. i took a drive down rt 127 trying to find anything worth while. I happend down the road im living on but there are no parking signs everywhere....I thought then how lucky it would be to live around here.

How big is your driveway? Those no parking signs are a big issue for those of us who like to cruise 127. I will offer you a first meal off my first keeper for some occasional parking:scream: as well as share some access knowledge and a coupla sweet honey-holes....

I've got a better offer though. :heybaby: I've got a couple kayaks rigged for fishing (and paddles, dry tops, PFDs, etc) and would be happy to take you out so you can catch your own keeper while you test drive.

I've had no problem parking at the little lot on the water at White Beach early in the AM and in the evening. Summer during the day, you might get tossed or ticketed.... There's a small public lot at the left hand side of Magnolia Harbor Beach and ytou can find spots on the side street to fish the rocks to the left of Magnolia Harbor as well.
The yak solves the access problems once you're on the water. My buds and I pulled large from those waters last fall...

The Railroad bridge down town produces some nice fish at night. Also the Blyman Bridge where the Annisquam empties into Gloucester Harbor is a great 1:00Am to 4:00Am, You can walk out on the rocks there.

Also scout out Salem and Beverly harbor, in particular Winter Islang near the Salem Willows. The old Beverly Salem bridge was left up for fisherman. The Kernwood Bridge area on the Beverly Salem line is a nice salt river to fish. I grew up in the area and it has some great bass fishing. PM me and I will give you a call and tell you about some other areas where you can possibly get land owner permission to fish.

The entire North Shore has some interesting spot...don't forget to check out Bass Rocks on the back shore of Gluucester and go up Washington ST parralleling the Anisquam River, many spots there and lots of fish. Follow that road througe Lanesville and have a look at Folly Cove, then follow the road to Rockport and check out Rockport.
