Nebe 01-09-2006, 02:06 PM I call this one the "Surf Tog" both plugs also have 600Lb test Crock swivels from M&D's. I will never go back to rosco's agian :hs: Diggin Jiggin 01-09-2006, 02:29 PM Eben, those are nice. Just curious, did you have a problem with the rosco swivels ? I've bent the vmc 3x's but the swivel held ?? Nebe 01-09-2006, 02:38 PM I have bent them and I have noticed that they corrode after time. The Crock's are stainless. when you have a stainless throughwire, and then attach all kinds of different metals to it (swivel, galvanized tail hooks, split rings) you will get electrolosis which causes the corrosion. In a perfect world i would use stainless hooks on the tail too, but i cant afford them at this point. Clogston29 01-09-2006, 02:45 PM I was thinking about trying this stuff on siwash hooks with bucktail to prevent rust. May be a cheaper alternative to SS hooks. Don't know how well it works but its from a reputable manufacturer. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0036961319390a&type=product&cmCat=search&returnString=hasJS=true&_D%3AhasJS=+&QueryText=owner&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.22&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=owner&noImage=0&returnPage=search-results1.jsp BigFish 01-09-2006, 03:21 PM Those are some dastardly dannies Eben...nice work!:) Nebe 01-09-2006, 03:33 PM I was thinking about trying this stuff on siwash hooks with bucktail to prevent rust. Nebe 01-09-2006, 04:25 PM corrosion CS... corrosion. rosco's are not stainless. The bent swivel was from hoisting a bass up a rock by the plug. It damaged the needlefish too.. left a nice V in the blank. ThrowingTimber 01-09-2006, 04:36 PM that tog is going to be killer whe the sea robins are :humpty: numbskull 01-09-2006, 05:07 PM Nice plugs. Over the years I've had swivels rip out/fail a number of times. Usually in smaller plugs (i.e., medium Dannys) although I've pulled one in a big Danny and even, I think, an Atom. All have been on just medium sized fish and always in older plugs, usually ones that had seen lots of use, so you are probably right about corrosion being a factor. I also think, however, that they rate swivels with a straight pull, but when used in a plug, particularly the front swivel gets strained at an extreme angle and is prone to fail. In spite of this I still often find myself using smaller swivels in plugs than I want, either to fit the grommet, or to not project too much, so I appreciate the lead on stronger hardwear. Nebe 01-09-2006, 05:08 PM Vic i have not yet posted the surf robbin yet.. those are getting painted next week :hihi: BTW.. none of these are for sale.. all spoken for. :) Tagger 01-09-2006, 05:35 PM Nebe ,,, you swim that yet ??? I was trying to make a slim danny and had trouble rolling out with slim prophile Actually they will pop out if I throw one in a heavy rip like what you would have at the canal.... we have a few places down here with that kind of current and for that i throw jigs and darters, so i never have problems... Dannies for me are all about calm still water, V-wakes and quiet coves with boulder fields. having 2 hooks really helps in the stabillity dept as well. thefishingfreak 01-09-2006, 07:54 PM sweet :humpty: capesams 01-09-2006, 08:06 PM now it's getting interesting.... ...plug builder...make's plug...swivel's get green,,,but builder dosen't change out swivel's when swivel's get tired.?? Zeno 01-09-2006, 08:39 PM Dannies for me are all about calm still water, V-wakes and quiet coves with boulder fields. having 2 hooks really helps in the stabillity dept as well. Really ? I got to try that one (calm water thingy). My favorite Danny water are leftover hurricane swells , hard southwest before the cold front or budding nor'easter, went water looks like a wash machine.Never cared for Danny in calm waters ,usually went with Atom Jr. I must come to your parts in the spring for a lesson ....:humpty: btw Nice plugs Nebe 01-09-2006, 09:15 PM now it's getting interesting.... ...plug builder...make's plug...swivel's get green,,,but builder dosen't change out swivel's when swivel's get tired.?? nope.. plugbuilder uses the best hardware possible so swivels wont turn green :D Custom plugs require custom hardware. why settle for less??? :lasso: Tagger 01-09-2006, 09:44 PM Nebe..can I call you Eben ,,, what lip are you using ... I know its possible (slim danny),,, just failed and moved on .. Nebe 01-09-2006, 09:49 PM im using the stock NJ tackle danny2 lip.. 2 slots- I use the top slot& bend the loop down a pinch. bottom slot makes them roll too much IMO.. also, its really not that slim.. the nose is a pinch wider than the lip Nebe 01-09-2006, 09:54 PM see- steelhead 01-09-2006, 10:02 PM Nebe, Try making the plug face and the lip the same width and cutting about 1/8" off the lip in front, replicate the radius of the arc. That combination swam pretty good in current for me. I also trimmed a few lips down in width (PIA!!!) and that seemed to help, too. Peter Lajoie 01-09-2006, 11:40 PM Nice work once again E.. gone fishin 01-09-2006, 11:46 PM Eben - nice job! Especially with rattle cans. You will really enjoy a airbrush. Striperhound 01-10-2006, 06:49 AM MUM'S THE WORD EBEN:rotf3: NIB 01-10-2006, 09:27 PM Nice plug johnny hardware. I have one similar to that u made just a tad larger. Stop usin splitrings, cut the hooks. the back split ring on the first plug is spread some already. If that rides up on the swivel u'll be cryin. Why enviro I like the other finish. No eyes on a danny. Thank you. Z wakin a plug on top can be achieved with many different styles. Just a matter of how u make em. One Mans danny is another mans A-40. With a little fine tinning he can tro that plug in a breachway. NIB 01-10-2006, 09:30 PM Actually i use em in the opposite fashion the A Jr.s I have from a old BEach master run are on the heavy side an I like to tro em in the white stuff more than the flat water. the round nose aids the plugs action.IMO.Plus they go nice wit a skin on em. Nebe 01-11-2006, 09:40 AM HEY TONY BALLONY :D the split ring that looks like it is opening was hung up on the swivil.. I put the hooks on about 15 seconds before i took those pics and didnt notice that i had a hanger.. I used E-tex because i have some left over from my pre sspraying days, but i blew up my air compressor.. threw out a bearing or something.. so i couldnt spray. man what a pain in the butt brushing that stuff on after you are used to spraying. I went down to a ripping outflow yesterday to swim one in some moving water. In calm water it came in right on top with a big v-wake like a motor boat.. in the rip it came in about 4 inches under and still made a V-wake like a submarine.. Didnt pop out at all and the action is all wiggle, no rolling. I really like this red cedar for swimmers, its nasty stuff to turn, but its so bouyant.. perfect for plugs you want to stay on the surface. Zeno 01-11-2006, 02:01 PM [QUOTE=NIB]= No eyes on a danny. Sorry if I have a eagle eye. :D Too bad bout the Kompressor.Welcome to the crap world of epoxy. Instead of Val oil try heating a ready to prime blank up 10 mins at 200. an coat wit epoxy.pour in the holes an use a pipe cleaner to service the insides.Keep applyin til it don't soak no more.wipe off the excess an let dry then prime an paint.Makes a nearly indestructo plug. I really like red cedar also for swimability.u can always weight to suit. its soft so u gotta whatch what ur doin.I hurd basswood is very nice i got a good chunk I have to decide what to do wit it. good to see u goin full bore.Keep up the good work.Call me if u want me to send u my smilin bill molds. Nebe 01-11-2006, 04:46 PM Call me if u want me to send u my smilin bill molds. ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh  :eek5: :bounce: :bounce:  Darn tootin i will :D NIB 01-11-2006, 04:49 PM [QUOTE=NIB]= No eyes on a danny. Thank you. =QUOTE] Because ? The Ledgend Dave Manzi brought this to my attention a few yrs ago an I agree hole heartedly.a Danny's Inherrent action is a tantalizing slight sub surface snakelike movement.Incorperated in that movement is some roll.No good, better fish i believe are turned off by this.the way to off set it is to paint em in solid colors or make the blends from one color to the next soft.no hard two tones like dark blue to white.the other giveaway is eyes.them eyeballs rotating top to bottom make me dizzy.i love dannys an probably caught more fish on that style plug than any other wood.Without eyes. There's a beauty in it's simplicity.I'm convinced they (eyes) really don't matter.if i do use em on metal lips they will match the paint scheme an kinda blend in..Then again I do have a big one 3.75 onces light yello an white.wit big red eys.only gets play in big water.caught lots o fish but it get used differently.Kinda like a rest an retrieve thing. In my mind the red eyes on the yellow gives em a better target. So it all depends. On needles in the dark of night i like eyes.I usta put them plastic eyes on my gibbs needles yrs ago I liked the bump out.I have quite a few older ones witout eyes that have worked well in the past but get no play anymore.Go figure. NIB 01-11-2006, 04:53 PM ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh  :eek5: :bounce: :bounce:  Darn tootin i will :D I Posted that in ur tire weight thread but i guess u didn't see it.My molds take special hooks:D.If i go to plugfest i will swing by if u don't go.An go over it wit ya. Nebe 01-11-2006, 05:03 PM NIB i'll call y ain a bit... as for eyes, i wont pu t them in now if i only use one hook on the belly as the plug will roll more- my dannies with two hooks wiggle like a bastid, so the eyes are not distracting and like you say, make a target- thats also why i put the plack dots behind the eyes.. Zeno 01-11-2006, 05:16 PM interesting concept....but I don't agree with any of it unless you can prove to me that you can talk to fish and they tell you that eyes makes them woozy ...its hearsay.give me the most realistic copy of a baitfish ....I have not yet seen the one with no eyes swim around as far as the colors scheme ... maybe, sometimes, occasionally ...basically ,like all other concept ... Slipknot 01-11-2006, 06:43 PM beachmasters used to work just fine with no eyes having said that, I have dannys with eyes and without Nebe 01-11-2006, 06:51 PM beachmasters dont wobble... if your plug wobbles, you gotta paint it a solid color so there are no details to show the wobble.. another thing is that the bass are attacking the plug from below most of the time and probably dont see the eyes. needlefish on the other hand really need eyes IMO>.. Slipknot 01-11-2006, 06:55 PM needlefish on the other hand really need eyes IMO>.. not really I fish lots of needles and blind ones catch too I can see that when the bass are picky and there is not complete darkness. I never fish needles in the daytime unless I am on my boat in a certain harbor mimicking sandeels fished fast. Nebe 01-11-2006, 08:17 PM true bruce. i guess what i ma saying is any plug that can be presented at eye level to the bass might fare better with eyes. Tagger 01-11-2006, 09:04 PM needles catch bass under a bright sunny sky too . Took a kid that didn't know what he was doing to prove it to me .
