Question for you PayPal people....

I've been making purchases for our department and was notified that I am about $190 away from my spending limit with PayPal. They said I have to become "Verified" if I want to spend more than that in the future. They are asking for a bank account etc. be entered into my PayPal account. All this looks legit as it is within my PayPal account.

My question is this....is this safe? Has anyone done this and do you feel untreatened that someone might take your info? (sorry...actually 2 questions!)

Thanks for the help!

I'd email Paypal direct and ask them to be sure.

I went through the verification process with paypal. Its not a big deal, but, as the others have said, make surre that you are really dealing with paypal before you send them your bank info. The process is pretty simple, you send them you bank info and they deposit some small amount like 22 cents into your checking account, then you tell them how much they deposited and PRESTO! you are verified.

Just like makomike said. Don't go through a link though. Type in paypal.com on your address bar. This way you know you are hooked up to them directly.

YES - ABSOLUTE. YOU need to initiate any computer communications with PayPal - NEVER put account info in an e-mail. Always enter the account information into the screen and only when the the address starts witrh https:// and with PayPal....l

Yup it's normal. I went through it a year or two ago.

As suggested, be wary of unsolicited links that get emailed to you that mention paypal though. I just deleted another one telling me paypal is verifying accounts and asked me to sign in to verify my info. They are getting clever. :musc:

F'um. They all su<k! :point:

Yes you can receive money from other people thru PayPal, it goes directly to you're account but PayPal makes weekly deposits to your bank. To receive money you have to be verified by having a bank account listed with them. Are you verified? If not when you do click on the get verified button what they do is make a deposit in that account for like 2 cents and you have to enter the amount they deposited in you're account back on PayPal and that's it ... you're verified. PayPal does not tranfer money everyday to bank accounts so don't be mislead, they make deposits once a week this way they hold all funds for that week in their name and collect the interest on it, multiply that by a million customers and you can understand how they have their own bank. One word to the wise too ... don't keep alot of money in that account you use because PayPal for any reason or time of their choosing can and will freeze the account. By doing this they lock you out of it and they draw the interest on your money until they decide it's time to let you have it, some or all of it back. If this happens they usually say that there was some abnormal activity on your account and they're doing this for "your protection", there has been many cases where PayPal has locked accounts on people and they have never gotten their money back so be careful and only keep a minimal amount of money in the account so if it does happen it doesn't hurt too bad. Good Luck!

For anyone who uses Paypal the key thing to remember is that if PayPal sends you an e-mail they will "ALWAYS" adress you by you're full name not dear so and so.

And as mentioned here before if you're not sure never link on a site through an e-mail, always type the name into your address bar and log on to change any information and make sure that there is an https//: before the www. and that there is a / after .com this way you are sure that you are really connected to them, securely.

Hope this helps.

Now you got me a little nervous with that PayPal lock-out stuff! I might have to create another bank account strictly for PayPal! Thanks for the heads up!

i've got a payapl debit card and can withdraw $400 a day from my account. if you use it in an atm you pay double fees( bank & pp ) if you go to a teller for an advance( it's really not, it's your $$) no fees.
