A Cap'n Flap Skin plug in progress......
View Full Version : I'm getting the hang of this turning thing.. Flaptail 01-14-2006, 11:12 AM A Cap'n Flap Skin plug in progress...... Canalman 01-14-2006, 11:17 AM looks good to me... too bad you won't be able to put a skin on it this year... :crying: BigFish 01-14-2006, 11:21 AM He can if he already has his skins salted away in a jar somewhere.....there is no eel ban as yet is there? Still pending? gone fishin 01-14-2006, 11:27 AM Flap - just a suggestion -- you put the belly holes etc. in the turning with the grain running wrong. Belly holes and other drillings should be with the grain showing on the sides of the plug. Or in other words into the flat of the grain. It makes for a stronger plug with less chance of splitting. :humpty: That will make one excellent skin plug - Now for finishing. :buds: Flaptail 01-14-2006, 11:39 AM looks good to me... too bad you won't be able to put a skin on it this year... :crying: Got two quart jars full now all pickled an ready! Will be purchasing more as well. Gonefishintalk, I have often wondered about that, thanks! Flaptail 01-14-2006, 11:44 AM another view and better idea of size. (big skin) numbskull 01-14-2006, 12:19 PM Now if you'd learn to use tools instead of your teeth you'd be all set. justplugit 01-14-2006, 12:29 PM Progessing very nicely Steve. :hihi: :kewl:Now if ya only knew some plug history too. :hidin: GFT, i always thought the tight grain should be on the bottom of the plug as it is more dense and will hold and swim better, What are your thoughts.? Canalman 01-14-2006, 12:34 PM Got two quart jars full now all pickled an ready! Will be purchasing more as well. No ban yet... but possesion of eels, rigged eels or skins will be likely be illegal. Its just like when you have a tank of herring at the herring run. Maybe you had them from last time but if you take your limit they will assume that you got them all in one sitting. If they allow is to have skins what's to stop us from potting our own eels, skinning them and saying "hey I've had these for years".... its gonna suck! thefishingfreak 01-14-2006, 01:55 PM looks nice. i think tagger?{someone on the other site?} makes one with a blow hole running head to rear, to fill the skin with water for fatter profile. nice eyes too. i gotta make me some of those. MAC 01-14-2006, 02:28 PM looks good Flap. Probably want to paint it black before ya put the hooks on though. :D Charleston 01-14-2006, 02:45 PM Why are the eyes attached already? Nice job! gone fishin 01-14-2006, 02:47 PM JFT - If the grain is tighter on one side than the other, You are correct. For some reason I always check that before orienting the plug for hooks and lips.:kewl: Backbeach Jake 01-14-2006, 04:08 PM JFT - If the grain is tighter on one side than the other, You are correct. For some reason I always check that before orienting the plug for hooks and lips.:kewl: :kewl: And I thought I was over-thing it. Turns oout I was only thinking just enough!;) justplugit 01-14-2006, 05:05 PM Thanks GFT, wanted to be sure. :) Fred, :D Flaptail 01-14-2006, 06:13 PM looks good Flap. Probably want to paint it black before ya put the hooks on though. :D Dave I was thinking black over yellow or black over olive. Skin would be dark side out. Numbskull, tools take all the challenge out of turning wood!
