Say what you will but the day MLK was assinated was a bad day for America. No one posted here today to mark this event so I thought I would. Non-violence, passive resistence and the vision of a colorblind world ended for the most part. Who has carried his legacy the way it should have been? Maybe Ralph Abernathy and a few others but the willingness of personal sacrifice for a better America has not been taken up by anyone of influence in the black community with respect he had. I often wonder where black culture, and ours for that matter would be if he were not assinated? The black culture today that focuses on the youth of this nation, the youth of color and a major part of the white youth here in America have shallow values that reek of exploitation of women, worship at the altar of material "bling", disregard the image they portray to thier younger siblings. It's sad.
Inner city kids killing each other for sneakers and chains. Kids having kids and the notion of parental responsibilty isn't there or nor was it displayed in many situations.
Time for somone in the black community of this nation to take back the years of reversal since his assination that black culture slid back into, shake them up, wake them up and all citizens of this country to get back to the dream. One nation, one voice, caring for each other and blind to everything except we are all human beings who deserve respect and dignity.

It's always amazing to listen to the man speak.
There's still a huge clash between self determination and the lasting impact of racisim on society. King articulated this like nobody else could.
And to think that we're about to appoint a new member to the Supreme court who once wrote that the Warren courts were bad!
As for not posting, most of us were too busy working :af:

He was a good man, nothing wrong with people who want to be truly free from prejudice. His dream for America (and the world) is something everyone should aspire to. I am a person of "mixed lineage" and was brought up to respect all people and treat them equally. I got this from my parents, as well as my ancestors. Doctor Kings message is one of hope and understanding. A positive message for all to live by.

Was it posthumously disclosed that he was a womanizer and had children out of wedlock? Not that this diminishes his message or his courage but I think he got a lot of tail.Lots of powerful people can't resist a piece of ass;look at Strom Thurmond he had a black child that he didn't publicly acknowledge until he was about 100.Clinton,JFK,any others?

Ray Nagin tried to take the reins the other day again but fell way short. Flaptail I think in to some degree that no one posting about MLK day might have something to do with any post coming across as hollow and meaningless because I am not as are most of us not persons of color. I am glad you took it upon yourself to do so. He was a great fearless man. Sadly thier will probably never be another one with his leadership skills and charisma.

You misspelled fool.
He also shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Dr. King. A man like that comes along only once in several generations. We could use a man of truth and courage now...

Yeah Nagin is just an idiot. He only wants "chocolate" people to come back to New Orleans according to him. Can you imagine if a white mayor said he only wants "Vanilla" people to come back to a city? Can imagine the out cry that would come from that? I guess black people are allowed to make racist comments towards whites and its ok. Yeah that makes sense:doh: hello double standard!
