more like withdrawl.

there is a huge live striper and re/black drum exhibit at the maritime aquarium in the main tank if you want to get a visual fix.

I might go trout fishing this weekend to help cure it, but once the surf is on your mind, a pond aint gonna cut it.

As an admitted bassoholic I have gone thru my DT phase for this winter already and now I am in rehab. :err: This consists of attending winter fishing and boating shows. I am further depressed by the fact that this spring when I would normally head to the run to wait for the herring to arrive and BS with similar souls... will not occur this season. This is my first fishing event of the year and it has been taken from me by greedy commerical fisherman and stupid regulators. I am further depressed by the fact that the eel population is also low and fishing with live bait will be limited to scup...but in MA the regulators shut that down last year at the end of August.

All that negative stuff aside...I take great comfort in my stockplining of quality plugs over the years and will fish them alot more this season.

That black gunk is the sediments and gunk that they are dredging out of ninigret pond. The reason why they are dredging is to get more tidal exchange or something like that, maybe RIRockhound can add to it. All i know is that it sends a black organic plume out into the ocean and might, just might draw in some cawd :D

I was sitting about 3 feet from the tube having a coffee with longshot when they turned the thing on... almost had a friggin heart attack :hihi:

The day they posted the MSBA details I had my first fishing dream of the winter. You could literally walk on 'em. It was beautiful, even serene. Two rods. One chunk, the other needlefish. They were even kind enough to wait for me to real one in on one rod before hitting the other. Less than 3 months away!!! And until then...:gu:

Mr. Sandman, since the indian tribes do not follow under the same herrings regs. as we do, and since you have on the Vineyard Menemsha pond herring run, I was wondering if it was legal to buy/beg herring from the Vanderhoops?

Mr. Sandman

That is a good question. I know they have a pretty good run and a decent comm business. I have seen them make deliveries to some local shops in the spring (fresh dead). The general public can't use a dip net at their run. But I am not sure of the law in this case. I think it is up to the tribe. They generally support the public wildlife laws but I don't think they have to. IMO (repeat) MO! I think they could sell them. (who would buy them though?) That said the new constable out here will enforce the public law. I see this guy everywhere, he is fair but strict. He will fine you, and if you give him any lip he will take your gear, be an adult or a kid. I would think that and if he catches you with a herring (indian or not) you are in trouble.

I plan to fish storm shads and skip the herring. As I have said the saddest part is the social thing for me...it is fun to see guys that have been hibernating all winter. We need to find a replacement venue. Also, that is pretty much the only decent lobster bait that time of year and some like to eat the roe.

whos stopping you from going to watch the herring?? I go every spring just to watch. I hear RI is going to ban herring as well, but i will still go to watch, just like i always do. If you flip rocks in the runs, you can find elvers too. its a blast.

Found myself glued to the live fish tanks in the south Boston Super 88 on sunday my wife had to drag me out, live cod and pollock. Had a jigging dream sunday night and almost wacked the wife on the up swing. Going to hit a few south coast rivers this weekend.
