Just finished watching a brilliant three-part, three-hour BBC documentary titled, "The Power of Nightmares: The Rise of the Politics of Fear." It originally aired in '04 just before our elections, and was just repeated on the BBC. (Friends in England highly recommended it, but not a single media outlet in the U.S. has had the courage to air it.)

Since the BBC refuses to issue it on DVD, the writer-director has made it available online from a number of outlets, with video quality ranging from excellent to lousy. Here are the best-quality links I was able to find:

Part I: Baby It's Cold Outside (http://ia300025.us.archive.org/1/items/ThePowerOfNightmares/chapter1_256kb.mp4)

Part II: The Phantom Victory (http://ia300025.us.archive.org/1/items/ThePowerOfNightmares/chapter2_256kb.mp4)

Part III: The Shadows in the Cave (http://ia300025.us.archive.org/1/items/ThePowerOfNightmares/chapter3_256kb.mp4)

It's a riveting examination of how we got into this mess, and who put us here. Well worth three hours of your time.

Over 30 attacks, 17 countries in 8 years, 5500 innocent dead, 3200 Americans.
You can pretend its a Repulican conspiracy all you want, Al Queda is a terror network.

I think media hyping, like these BBC movies, are the bigger modern conspiracy against the people

Exsqueeze me JohnR, but who mentioned anything about a pissing contest?

I am seriously confused here ... I post something here in jest and then someone thinks I am jumping down his throat?

What's with all the defensiveness? Eben why are you so jumpy all of a sudden?

Hellooo? Where did all the love go? What the hell happened to this place?

Somebody, anybody?

Ben - use your regular FWW account. One account only.

Who says it's a pissing contest - surely looks like the start to one. If you two are all lovey - then share the  . I didn't see much "love" in this thread. I don't want to see things go south on this.

What happened? It's Winter, we are all jonesing a little, and stirring schnit for some, uhh, release, may be good for you but not be the best way for everyone to have some fun.

to get this thread back on track, those 3 links are a BBC series. there is no conspiracy theory, no finger pointing... its just a mini series that simply points out things that happened in the past that led both us and the muslims to where we are now. thats it. plain and simple :D

Watch some of these videos and see for yourself how %$%$%$%$ed up liberals are! You can really see the hatred for America and Bush these people have at the rallies. its quite scary and alarming. I swear they hate Bush more than they hate Bin Ladin. These people are %$%$%$%$ed in the heads.

Not really, that's not to say it doesn't paint a decided picture but it's pretty objective at the same time.

I'd say this, watch it and if it challenges your pre-concieved views...think about what's played out more accurately in the past few years.

the funny thing is that parts of it are anti liberal. Its great if you want to catch up on the who's who of global strategists and the propaganda that our govermenet feeds us as well as the propaganda the muslim extremitsts feed their people to fuel the fire. Furthermore, it explains why there is a fire in the first place citing the cold war as an example..
Its done by the BBC and is un-biased.

i thought it was interesting.

spence
01-24-2006, 12:00 PM
I wouldn't say it's un-biased...as it does present a viewpoint that's somwhat counter to the Administration regarding the nature of the terrorist threat. Perhaps it's bias is that it's pragmatically biased.

Not that there isn't a threat, but how our perception has been manipulated...and how the Islamists have manipulated their people.

Hence the whole "nightmares" theme.

Interestingly enough, the substantial points echo much of what I read in the book "Imperial Hubris", written by the ex CIA Bin Laden analyst.

It's not liberal, but very critical of the Bush Administration. I could go on an anti-neocon rant here, but you could just as easily watch the videos

Skip, this is how it works.

You watch the video. If it challenges your notion of world events, you ask yourself...

Self, what parallels can I draw with other events considered probably factual that would give credibility to one side or the other?

With a little effort on your part, the truth may just be revealed, and it may not be what you think!
