Speaking of that letter, I guess he does'nt understand that alot of the stuff that was said was said in the heat of the moment. I am sure most of the positive feedback about said article came from people that were not from RI, and may want to fish there someday. I am sure if someone did the same this to his honey holes, if he even has any he would be upset as well. That being said I was very excited to see that they collectively used there minds and came up with this exciting article. My only suggestion would be, rather than pressuring their writers for exact spots, to have them pick the best features of many of their own spots, and use them in generalities. That is all.

The Phantom Beach article was very interesting, and a nice way to respond to all the "spot burning" critisisms that arose out of McKenna's article. I haven't read the Gag's piece yet but will get to that next.

OTW walks a fine line between informing fishermen and "over" informing them. This article shows that OTW can still be an informative and entertaining publication without putting out a "stand here and cast there" sign.

Pubs such as OTW help bring more fishermen into the sport by educating and encouraging them. However, a lot of people have the attitude that the more fishermen there are out there, the worse it gets (crowded beaches, crowded boat ramps, etc.), and there is truth to that. But in this day and age of threatened MPAs, increased regulations, the prospect of saltwater fishing licenses and so on, the more people who feel vested in recreational fishing, the more political power we have.

My hat is off to the publisher, editor, and contributors for a job well done here.

As far as the editors letter I thought Chris Megan missed the point of all the discussion we had here on the site in regards to Steve McKennas article......most were upset about the pressure that would be put on those spots in regards to litter, illegal parking, noise and the possibility of losing access to these spots due to the over exposure. Just my .02 cents. I thought it was a fine letter none the less and its good to see they hear us. Great issue this month and I still have lots to read still....back to fireside now!:)

When Steve got his copy of the map for "phantom beach" we looked at each other and laughed, it looks just like a spot on our shore:jump1:

Havent got my copy yet but cant wait to see just how close everyone is in the way they would fish it-or- how far apart....

And it's remarkably similar to a spot I fish in Maine, spots are pretty similar.

The Phantom Beach being remarkably similar is no accident, and just goes to show how you can teach generically about many different spots without burning them, let's hope they keep it that way. I don't need someone to tell me where to fish, but if they want to offer their insite on how fish a piece of structure a certain way when I encoounter it, then I am all ears.

AAAAAARRRRRGHGHGHGHGHGH!!!!! :af: :wall: I don't get on the net much these days, so I really look forward to the end of the month. The hardest part is making it last a couple of days.
