View Full Version : New for Nextel Cup in 2007 basswipe 01-23-2006, 04:45 PM  :yak6: JohnR 01-23-2006, 05:19 PM  :yak6: Well - looks like Toyota will get another crown for racing - they are tops in most venues. Just the way the approaced racing a few years back was unbelieveable. I stopped any involvement / following racing back in the early-mid 90s but they were good at most things they entered.... basswipe 01-23-2006, 05:41 PM Its just very hard to get used to 'Yota and stock cars being mentioned in the same sentence.I miss the days of all of the American car makers were in Winston Cup. kippy 01-24-2006, 06:46 AM who will be driving toyota this year? striperman36 01-24-2006, 02:37 PM NO factory sponsorhip for teams? That's not nice. striperman36 01-24-2006, 02:38 PM  :yak6: Thats a Camry!!!!! Come on!! Clogston29 01-24-2006, 02:56 PM Toyota has been good for the Truck series because they've brought in new energy and made the existing manufacturer's step up their games and they may do the same for the cup series. It will be interesting to see what owners make the move. Bill Davis is probably a given but the others could be interesting. Personally I don't see any of the big teams leaving Chevy or Ford but I could see and Everham or Penske make the move from Dodge to Toyota, especially with the recent aero issues with the dodge front end. Maybe some smaller teams like Cal Wells would make the move to Toyota if they promise more factory support. basswipe 01-24-2006, 05:11 PM who will be driving toyota this year? Not this year.'07 basswipe 01-24-2006, 05:16 PM Clogston brings up some very interesting issues. Toyota will be putting large amounts of money on the table to get teams to make the switch.Don't be surprised to see teams like Petty Enterprises make the switch:eek5: .You'll more than certainly see guys like Shrader or Nemechek in a Toyota for '07 too. basswipe 01-24-2006, 05:19 PM Thats a Camry!!!!! Come on!! The '07 Camry meets the requirements. Some folks had the same reaction when Ford introduced the 4dr Taurus.Speaking of Ford remember they're switching to the Fusion this year..........not much American about that car. striperman36 01-24-2006, 09:09 PM True about the Fords. That Camary don't look like dat though. I haven't seen a Fusion with a full aero package on it yet. It's just the skin anyway tehy are all the same under the skin. basswipe 01-25-2006, 05:36 AM Well it looks like the first official drivers/teams have announced they're switching. Mikey Waltrip is forming a new team Michael Waltrip Racing.Looks like he and current team mate Dave Blaney will make up the new two car team. Can't wait to see who else. redneck24 01-25-2006, 06:43 AM see what i mean, nascar is killing nascar. :hs: redneck24 01-25-2006, 06:44 AM i'm just glad i was a fan that got to enjoy racing when it was a great sport. sr must be spinning in his grave. Raven 01-25-2006, 07:00 AM i saw some stuff on TV saying that the pickup trucks popularity was due to the disaperence of the "muscle cars" of the 70's so the auto makers are bringing them back.....and we'll be able to drag race for pink slips again... Clogston29 01-25-2006, 07:40 AM I think that nascar has and is doing alot of things to make the sport worse but I don't think that allowing Toyota in is one of them. Also, alot of their problems, or at least what I think are their problems, aren't really their fault but are a result of the sport's total reliance on sponsors. striperman36 01-25-2006, 09:55 AM Just proves that anybody will do anything for money. The night races are good, I enjoy those, so I can go fishing and not miss a race. How many races are we up to? It takes 8 million just to get to the track and have a chance of getting in the race every weekend. Roush has what a 90 million program for Nextel? It's unreal the amount of money, it's almost as bad if not worse then pro Football. The sponsors drive it all. luds 01-25-2006, 10:46 AM Just proves that anybody will do anything for money. The night races are good, I enjoy those, so I can go fishing and not miss a race. I like the night races too but I've had the opposite experience when it came to fishing. I missed the end of most of the night races last year because I was out in the surf. Love Nascar but fishing takes priority. Clogston29 01-25-2006, 10:47 AM I'm buying a tivo before the season starts for that very reason luds 01-25-2006, 11:03 AM I'm buying a tivo before the season starts for that very reason Not a bad idea redneck24 01-25-2006, 12:55 PM I'm buying a tivo before the season starts for that very reason good call :) basswipe 01-25-2006, 04:52 PM Racing ALWAYS comes first. There are six OTHER nights to fish. That being said Nascar is ruining the "fun" of the night race. There are just way to many now.The night race was a special occasion because of its rarity. It really wasn't all that long ago when the 600 and Bristol were the only night races and then a few years later the 400 in Daytona. It now is getting to the point if a track hosts two races one of them ends up being a night race. basswipe 01-25-2006, 04:59 PM i'm just glad i was a fan that got to enjoy racing when it was a great sport. sr must be spinning in his grave. Haven't missed a race since the first flag to flag in '79. Man I've been a witness to it all. striperman36 01-25-2006, 06:24 PM Now, what I would really like is Race Night at a R/C nascar track. I haven't put together a nitro r/c nascar car. I think it would be awesome. Nobody does that around here. F1 kills me after 50 laps I am toasted, but good for the wrists!! basswipe 01-25-2006, 06:39 PM With only race at the Glen and Sonoma you're not likely to see a night race. But never say never and you damn know who to look for to win it!:) striperman36 01-25-2006, 10:09 PM Yeah, I think Robby will do a lot better this year.:nailem: basswipe 01-26-2006, 06:20 AM Yeah, I think Robby will do a lot better this year.:nailem: :rotf3: redneck24 01-26-2006, 06:54 PM robby must die :behead: Double_D 01-27-2006, 12:22 AM NASCAR wants to go global and letting in a Japanese car manufacturer only makes sense, I believe Toyota will come out of the gates with guns a blazing, just wonder who is the next new comer to cup racing,Nissan,Honda,BMW,Mazda.:rollem: basswipe 01-27-2006, 04:45 PM NASCAR wants to go global and letting in a Japanese car manufacturer only makes sense, I believe Toyota will come out of the gates with guns a blazing, just wonder who is the next new comer to cup racing,Nissan,Honda,BMW,Mazda.:rollem: I don't think you'll see any of the German car makers involved in Nascar.
