Raider Ronnie 01-23-2006, 08:25 PM Have you tried getting prices from a boat hauling co.
If you figure out the cost of driving down there and back in fuel, tolls ect..... Plus the fact if something were to go wrong like an accident !!!
Try Paul @ Continental Marine in Quincy (behind the Sportsmen den)
He's a good guy !!!
quick decision 01-23-2006, 08:29 PM I know Dave down there who does the moorings. Any conection. Would a hauling company be automaticaly insured?
TheSpecialist 01-23-2006, 08:29 PM Not to mention that most boats that size require a special permit to tow.
beamie 01-23-2006, 10:13 PM QD,
Don't even waste your time trying to borrow or loan someone elses trailer. Not knowing the condition etc. It is not worth it and in the long run you won't save a dime dealing with the aggravation it something goes amiss.
All the good "professional" boat haulers will have up to date ins. Simms Brothers in Marshfield one of the best I've seen. Great rigs, they design and build them themselves, from what I understand they're a couple of MIT grads etc.
I borrowed a trailer once to launch my boat. You know to try to save $150. What a dissater....flat tire, messed up winch. 6 hours later the boat was in the water. For $150 it could have been in in 15 minutes.
They are going to charge you both ways. With some of the upcoming boats shows it may be possible to find a company in Conn. doing the boston show that is making multiple trips to spplit the fare if he was coming back up MT after the show.

RIROCKHOUND 01-24-2006, 08:20 AM What Mike said...
thefishingfreak 01-24-2006, 08:09 PM i'd pay $ to have it hauled.

MakoMike 01-25-2006, 07:59 AM Mike,
Guys run new to you boats back and forth to FL all the time. If you haven't had it checked out mechanically already, you're a fool for buying it.
GBOUTDOORS 01-25-2006, 08:10 AM I will be bringing a 28' Fortier home to Matt. in the spring from Ct. we will be running up the coast in the water not on the ground. As mako siad if you bought the boat it should have been checked out and in good running order. That is if you did not buy a project boat. We will be coming up in April if you wish to tag along you are welcome.
RIROCKHOUND 01-25-2006, 10:19 AM What Mike said;
My father picked up his last boat in NJ; ran back to Newport in 8hrs at 20kts...
this was post survey and full inspection.. should be done anyways
Besides what Cap'n Ron said ' if it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen out there boss...."
if it's a project boat then yeah hire a hauler...
TheSpecialist 01-25-2006, 10:20 AM Greg you buy another boat, those Fortiers are schweeet
GBOUTDOORS 01-25-2006, 12:32 PM No Bill a good friend did and he asked if I would bring it home for him. Fig. 12 hours if all goes well and there are no fish in the way:humpty:
