Well, here it is 2/3 through January and the fishing has been fabulous. I've been out chasing the wily Quahog at least once and sometimes twice each week. This year, I decided to take only Littlenecks and with one exception I've been able to hold to that desire. I steam and eat them, make Clams Casino and Stuffed Clams. I've only made one chowdah so far this winter.

Two weeks ago I discovered a flat that was pretty well loaded with Razor Clams; a species I had never eaten but had heard great stories about. I brought a couple dozen home, found a couple recipes on Google, and had a fantastically good meal of light, batter-quick-fried razors.

This week, I found the bonanza; at least to me. I found a flat with harvestable quantities of Soft-shell (Steamer) Clams. These are the clams I've eaten all my life; from my youth in Gloucester to an adult in New Hampshire until moving here to the Cape. Fried, steamed or in a chowdah; I still feel there is nothing that can hold a candle to a soft-shell clam. Tonight, my supper was two dozen steamers with a glass of White Zinfandel. Truly, Cape Cod has much to offer an inveterate fisherman!

Offshore..Sounds like you have been eating well...Yummy..I am having some littlenecks as we speak ,on the halfshell,,,But steamers are my favorite also..As a kid who lived in Eastham on the bay side in the summer that was our meal 2 times a week,,:kewl:

If I was going to die, I would have a new england Clam boil as my last meal!!

I could eat steamers everyday!! But winter it is kind of hard to find someplace that will let you dig for them. (I am in Yarmouth)

But a good friend keeps me stocked most of the time!! He has a grant that I help him with in Orleans and we have pleanty of Oysters, little necks, top necks, chowders, and steamers.

Offshore I am close to you !

Red Stripe is my usual brew with clams. Happened that I was all out but had a half-open bottle of wine and it's just as good or better, IMHO.

I'm awaiting the next low-course tides to try for those Big CC Bay Sea Clams. Have to be careful around them though...

Great pic! When I was a kid, we used to gather up those sea clams by the bucketfuls.....on a low tide during full moons.....we called them "moon clams"...great chowder.....

Use to have a pemit in Marshfield, but all too often the Scituate poop plant would overflow so I gave it up years ago. All winter long once a week I'd dig the steamers and just about every time the warden would be out there. What my brother SQD said though about Eastham and clams as a kid it was awesome. Use to eat razor clams on a dare raw.
