An Australian sheep farmer was puzzled
at the disappearance of sheep on his farm.
After a few weeks of sheep disappearing
the farmer decided to put up an electric
fence. This is what he found! .

I hate snakes. I had a 3'er here last year in Uxbridge, very dark brown not a garden snake etc. really nasty looking snakes- they're living in the wall at the base of the pool. The one I killed was trying to bite me when I chopped his head off about a foot back. This one was in the driveway near the kids so it got it. We see them sometimes in the summer sunning themselves on the rocks. I gotta rebuild that wall... I dread doing it. Nice pic Dave. Cool to see the mouth size.

from snopes.com: "
The photos below are from the ExxonMobil compound in Luanda - Angola, Africa. You will notice from the insulators in the first photo this is an electrified fence. I do not think you will wonder why they need an electric fence. "

BUT, the photos are real. Just not from Australia...

Variations: Different versions of the e-mailed text accompanying these photos claim the snake pictured was found "near Jebel Ali, Iraq" (Jebel Ali is actually a port town in the United Arab Emirates, not Iraq); at the "ExxonMobil compound in Luanda, Angola," in South Africa; and by an "Australian sheep farmer."

Origins: The photographs displayed above evidently originated with the Silent Valley Game Ranch in South Africa, as we were informed in response to an inquiry sent there:
The snake had eaten an impala ewe and was trying to go through the electric fence when it was killed by the electric fence. The pictures were taken on Silent Valley Ranch in the Waterberg mountains of South Africa. If you go to the site you will see the images of the impala that was removed from the pythons stomach.
Additional pictures appear on the Silent Valley Ranch's web site, which describes them as picturing an African rock python:
The Rock python is Africa's largest snake. The rock python eats mammals and birds.

Lays up to 100 eggs about the size of a tennis ball in antbear (Aardvark) holes, hollow tree or similar suitable place. The female coils herself around the eggs to protect them.

The snake in this picture had eaten a full grown Impala ewe and, sadly, caught itself in an electric fence.

Over four metres in length, this was a large specimen.

When the python was skinned we found a full grown Impala ewe had just been swallowed.

The python kills its prey by coiling itself around the animal and constricting it. When the animal is dead the python swallows it normally head first.Having swallowed its prey, the snake will find an abandoned burrow or hollow tree in which to hide and digest its meal.

A python's bite is not poisonous but would be very painful.

Black Racers aren't uncommon in this area. They're a fairly good sized snake, 40 to 60 inches is normal for an adult. They're not typically aggressive unless cornered, and they go like you wouldn't believe if you spook them and they feel like running. As you describe Salty, most that I've seen have been near rocks on which the snake was sunning itself.

The other good sized snake in the area is a water snake. I forget if it's a water moc, but it is sometimes aggressive and it's also a good sized animal. It's not poisonous, but it's a scary looking snake. Big, fat, and generally it has a bad attitude.
