Can someone explain this technique to me? Are you trying to get the plug to shake it's head from side to side?

I find a lot of people try and work a spook like a Pencil. It works a LOT better if you can actually get one to dart a foot or more back and forth at a slower pace.

dont forget the law demands you clean up after walking the dog .

Walking the dog works best if you can keep your rod tip down. Reel at a steady speed and make a series of jerks with the rod tip. Long, slow jerks will give a wide "arc" to the lure, short quick jerks will cause the lure to move back in forth quickly and in a narrow path.

Experiment in calm water. Easiest to do off of a boat where you can keep your rod tip pionted at the water.

Tuna love a tight walk with a spook too.

The big thing with walking the dog is learning it at daytime so you know how one particular action in a particular sea state does what to the plug. The action also varies on how far the plug is from the rod...

Varrying retrieve to find what the fish are on is a good practice but I personally start with a s l o w side to side motion and vary from there - I also always go back to slow when things slack...

you can also cast it out there and jiggle your line

that is a good one, yeah, the rod tip is high in the video....

The rod tip high is the traditional way to walk a Zara Spook...you kind of want it to lift its nose out of the water and fall to one side then the other, then the other and so on.

I've just started messing with the rod tip down and thats where you get more of a slashing side to side action, at least I do.

The only time my rod tip goes low is when the plug gets much closer but most of my retrieve I keep the tip up...

sometimes you need to have a count of how many cranks on the reel before you hesitate....and barely wiggle it so it still seems alive but the forward motion is essentially stopped.....thats generally when they'll strike!, so be ready.....and if not repeat the proceedure....you can reel 3 times then 2 then 1 and stop...and like john said: Varying the retrieve until they give ->you the "clue"as to what action triggers a strike....

I like to use a wide walk in a cadance, such as tug..tug..stop..tug..tug..stop, a sudden change from this will drive bass insane, such as just reeling it in strait for a few turns nice and slow.
Also at spots where i have a current going away from me ill slide it along on top of the current in place for a bit then let it drop back, then repeat. Theres something about a plug getting carried away by the current that bass love.

that's what i did, don. after all, your spookster is my favorite plug for the early season. besides, it catches anything on any retrieve.
