In The Surf 02-14-2006, 11:36 PM GSB 1201L :kewl: Krispy 02-15-2006, 12:59 AM xra 1203 damgriz 02-15-2006, 04:25 AM sea dangles check out all star blanks very light. they fish better than the lamiglass. just my opinion Sudsrat 02-15-2006, 06:06 AM Have heard only good things about Rainshadow. I'm having a SU1087,9' 1pc.1-4oz. wrapped for me this spring. They have a nice 10'er too. Joe 02-15-2006, 07:44 AM That Rainshadow I won from M&D's is sweet. I'm not sure of the number - it was 9" with a 2oz sweet spot, yet stiffer than you would expect. Pete_G 02-15-2006, 08:05 AM Dave Fontaine (Seawolf) will be at our show Saturday with a whole bunch of blanks and built sticks to play with. chris L 02-15-2006, 08:45 AM get a danny the dino rod . best casting spin cast outfit I have ever used . I like my 1201L and my 1084 for eeling . although the 1087 is a nice rod too . SeaWolf 02-15-2006, 08:57 AM dangles - you need another rod??? well, i'm assuming spinning, right? gsb1201m is about the best mod-hvy eel blank i would recommend. it has the power to move a real fish as well as soft enough action to throw an eel w/o throwing it off the hook. i'll have pete's rod built on that blank at this weekend's show if you want to check it out. all star blanks no longer produces blanks. Sea Dangles 02-15-2006, 08:58 AM 1201M The rating seems excessive on this rod but I've heard good things about it.I have a 1203 but that is for eeling the sand IMO.I need the ability to turn fish, maybe a 9' would be better for me this is strictly a stick for wading and fishing bone yards like B.I. How many Rogue 9' will be in my group this year Dave? The best plug rod out there for fishing the rocks No longer a secret. SeaWolf 02-15-2006, 09:05 AM pay no attention to the rating of this rod on their website/catalog. way, way exaggerated lure rating. 1-4oz, happy at 2-3.5. you will turn fish and load a rod. and, i will be building that rogue and i have a couple in stock. Clogston29 02-15-2006, 09:33 AM I have the 1201m (well actually the 1202m) and to 1208 and they're both rods but I'd choose the 1201 for eeling, more parabolic. The 1201 also has alittle more balls. Joe 02-15-2006, 10:13 AM If you can't pick your eels - you're screwed. I have not seen too many bait tanks full of 2oz eels in recent memory - its seems they get a couple of good batches in the spring and fall, and then they are either too big or too small. You almost need two eel rods. Steve K 02-15-2006, 10:37 AM lami 1201L is my favorite eeling rod. I like it better than the 1201M. Saltheart 02-15-2006, 01:44 PM There are tons of good eeling rod choices. I use a Loomis 1266 for eeling. My next choice would be the XRA 1205 if they are big eels. My next choice for small eels is a Sabre 967. I also use that to eel from a boat. I think the new edition XRA 1084 is now a contender. I also like the Lami GSB 120 1L. It has a lot more power than people recognize. the 120 1 M is an obvious choice. At 9 feet , the allstar 1088 is very nice but as sea Wolf mentioned , they are not doing blanks anymore...too bad. Again , lots of good eeling rods out there. LeCounts1099 02-15-2006, 02:01 PM Great point, Joe! You first have to decide generally the size of eels you like to throw, or simply are available around you at a given time! No one rod is "best" for throwing eels without addressing their size/ weight. I use off-the-shelf Spinning rods, but use one of three depending (works for me): -- Lami Arra 10': for large to outsized eels in big/ rocky water where power is needed... --St. Croix Ben Doeer 10': Medium eels... Rocks or sandy areas ok... --Ugly Stick 10': Believe it or not, my "ideal" rod for pitching mid- size snakes on sand beaches, including the Cape. This rod has never failed me yet, and has the perfect blend of tip- whip, and backbone, for this task! (Best fight I ever had from surf-- without the need to worry about rocks & obstructions-- was a 41lb.er from Truro on this rod, with 17 lb. mono!) :boots: Pete_G 02-16-2006, 07:51 PM i'll have pete's rod built on that blank at this weekend's show if you want to check it out. I can't wait to get a look at that thing. I imagine it will look hawt with a VS250 in silver sitting on it with the subtle burgundy wraps... :btu: Sea Dangles 02-16-2006, 07:56 PM Pete ,those look like the hands of a troll. Pete_G 02-16-2006, 07:59 PM Pete ,those look like the hands of a troll. A troll screaming in pain. NIB 02-18-2006, 02:32 AM Try to find a 542.nice parabolic taper perfect for throwin eels.plus enough ass to lift a 25 lb weight off the floor. spence 02-18-2006, 09:22 AM I picked up a rod this fall for the same reasons...did a lot of thinking and ended up with a Lami MB 114 3F cut 3" from the tip. It's a fast action glass blank with a soft tip. Not as graceful as the graphite but does just about everything well and wont get banged up on the rocks. It's also not a lightening rod. Only fished it a few times, but so far I'm liking it. It's not an expensive blank either. -spence Offshore 02-18-2006, 06:40 PM I've been fishing for 60 years and have never met a fisherman who couldn't use another rod........, or reel........, or...... jkswimmer 02-19-2006, 06:43 PM 132 1L cut one foot of the bottom snake slinger 02-20-2006, 01:33 PM 1201m ive got one that dave built me, perfict eel rod sini 02-20-2006, 09:52 PM rain shadow 1207 light, strong all around best for your money .My first 50 lb was caught on sw 1207.Good for plugs & meed size eels. Nebe 02-21-2006, 10:30 PM I like the SB 1213M. not for casting eels, but for landing the cows i catch with those eels :hihi: vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
