1.) Try Casting out to try and snag it!:rolleyes:

2.) Chalk it up as a loss! You can make more!:af:

3.) Swim For it!:heybaby:

That happened to me last fall. We stood there watching it float for a few seconds then a fish came up and it was gone. (it was a Jigman hand carved too) :o

Woa , that happened to me with a nice plug that Throwing Timber gave me on the Cape. I was fishing with Basswipe one evening and my teaser got caught on the rod or some gd thing:splat: ..anyway snap! Luckily the splash was not too far out.So I remembered the wave where it landed :angel: , and waded around with my light (oh noo!) for a while and there she was! It was like finding a new plug!:happy:

It happened to me a couple of times. This one wasn't brand new but it ended up about 50 yards out and after only 4 casts with a modified pencil popper{several extra trebbles}I snagged it.
My brand spankin' new first time cast of a sweet needle picked up at last years MSBA show{c'mon March!!!}, the wind gusted up in my face while I of course tried to sail it across the sound with my conventional. Twing!!! Not having my trusty popper, and being that the water was all the way up to 62 degrees, and not wanting to be out that cash, I took the lomgest, coldest, and most rewarding swim of my life.

A couple of years ago I was fishing in Maine for a week and the wife and kids came friday for the weekend. They showed up at 3 in the morning where I was fishing (T and gave me some bombers that came in the mail and coffee (theres a reason I love her). Tied on a black bomber and dinged it off on the first cast. Did'nt even look for it. At low tide when the sun came up I'm walking back and lo and behold there it is lying on the sand. And I caught some fish too.

this thread makes me think I should start carrying a snorkle and some flippers with me out there. then you could even find snagged tins and jigs!

Why are you "snapping #^&#^&#^&#^& the lures in the first place ? Did the bail close on the reel during the cast ? Did the shock leader knot get caught in the guide ? Did the line rub against the spool ? Did you crack a guide or get a burr on a guide ? Bad knot, Bad snaps or hardware ?

Seems like every one snaps off a lure sooner or later, why did your lure snap off ?
What are you doing to reduce or eliminate "lure snap #^&#^&#^&#^& ?

Larry everyone here who makes plugs is probably saying swim for it swim for it swim for it and they'll be at the auction, first in line, when your window has to sell off all the stuff in the shed. But hey if its close I'd say SWIM FOR IT.:rotf2:

I snapped off a brand new Yozuri pencil 4 or 5 years ago in the canal. It was only out maybe 50' ( I nested one of my newells). Another regular says to me,"it isn't that far, you can probably get it". I looked at him and said :doh: " Nope, not me. But if you want it go for it" Needless to say he didn't go swimming either. I told him he was an A..hole for even suggesting I swim for it. There isn't a fishing lure made worth possibly drowning over.

Like guys diving for golf balls at all the water hazards. They make a decent living too.

Last June, waded out 1/4 mile in Barnstable. Tied on a brand new yellow BERNZY, first cast out in the channel, snap off, with an outgoing.What the $##@%%@^@&&@. Waders on, just kiss it good bye and don't let it spoil my day. :doh:

I snapped off a lure once in the ^%$# Bay and my pal redlite got it for me.....he was an inch from top of his waders....wadda a good chit....I was gonna let it go.....I miss that fREaK:jump1:

I'm not swimming for a plug. If its that dear to you , you should have it hanging on a wall , not tied on the end of a breakable line.
