Just got back home from the Fairhaven N.B. bridge where I caught 3 small stripers biggest about 5 lbs. Got all three on some GS rubba nice stuff BOB thanks! I had one problem I had put 20-8 lb fireline on my 4000 stradic and when the first fish hit the line just spun on the spool as if it was not tied on. The knot I had tied would not hold to the spool is there a good knot to use for fire line to spool? I have never had this happen before with mono. I hda to hand line all three fish in because as soon as the hook was set the line would spin :smash: :smash: :smash:

Greg....put some wraps of black electrical tape on the spool or 10 yards of mono first and the braid joined by a cpl uni knots.

GB, ya gonna have to unspool your line and put a tight wrap of electrical tape over the knot. That should do it for ya..

GB, I have an antique hand line I'll let you use - it will be easier on the fingers than the fireline

I'll tell ya I am glad I was alone at the time tried to fix the drag first then saw that the line was spinning not the spool good thing they were small fish or the cuts in my hands would have been real deep!!!:smash: :smash: :smash:

GB;

I had that happen to me last year in LI. Unravel the line an either put electrical tape on it or put some crazy glue on it. I put the glue on there. Its what I had available at the time.

..GeeBee, I've never tried the electrical tape......I use the mono backing myself....and have never had that problem...

Congrats on the fish!

I have a layer of mono on my Stradic before the braid kicks in...

Seems like we have all learned that lesson the hard way, I use a small amount of mono backing on all my reels spooled with 30# spiderwire. Glad you hooked up GB with my baits, which ones, what rigging, were you using my rigging method?

ps: For anyone who missed out on the 5/0 Owner 90 degree hooks at the show (they sold out fast), I've got an order coming. Will also be stocking the Sled Heads and the UltraHead Saltwater bullets to 1-1/2 oz.

Bob I was using the same rig we used on the thames last month. The dark small split tail with the owner jig head. All three fish had very white bellys. New fish????:eek:

We use spectron and always spool with 3 or 4 layers of mono say 17 lb . Tie the braid on with and albright or uni to uni and then spool on the braid.

Thanks to all I respooled with tape on the spool and over the knot. Hit the water last night with Goose, I caught one had a few hits and Goose caught three. Not a bad night for end of March!!:) Then took Goose by the farm to see how many deer in the fields 16 in one and 4 in the other had to tie Tony to his seat and get back to fishing fast for the deers sake.:eek:

Tony nice to meet you and thanks for the new fishing spots;)
