What would the downside to be exploring a truce be? We'd learn his exact location, among other things. We'd look like we are at least trying to find common ground with the extreme end of the Muslim population. As much as I'd love to see Bin Laden dead, how many more soldiers have to die and how many more $$ will be spent on a "war" we can not win, at least not in a traditional sense of bombing an opponent into submission? I really feel the only way to win this so called war is with politics and diplomacy. Not only can't we find and kill all the people that do want to kill us, but we polarize those who are on the edge in the effort to do so, in a way creating the next generation of terrorists with each terrorist we kill. Some would say a truce would mean "they won" but isn't the point of this "war" to protect the homefront and create a more secure world for ourselves? If a truce did that would we "win" ?
I'm sure others would say it would make us look weak, but I honestly don't think anyone would ever make that mistake in perception if they were trying to pick a fight with the United States. :rocketem:
