View Full Version : Skin jig puzzle cracked
Saltheart 03-29-2002, 11:32 PM Smokey and I spent all day working at it but we have pretty much solved all the problems with making skin jigs in less time so we should be able to make a lot more this year. We also eliminated the external crimp so no soldering is needed. If you want skin jigs I suggest you send me an email and get on the list. They are all 4 OZ skin jigs. They are $35 a dozen or $20 for 6 or $10 for 3. We sold every one we made last year. We had to make a special emergency batch at the end of last year just to keep JPowers supplied late into the fall. I anticipate we will make 15 dozen this spring and 5 dozen of them are already spoken for. We may or may not make more in the fall. Let me know if you want some at
Saltheart@striped-bass.com.
Smokey 03-30-2002, 09:00 AM I hope the 5 doz. spoken for are ours, last year we got six apiece. I will have a hotlips skinjig when we meet next friday. That will give us somthing to do while the rubber mold is cooling.
JPowers 03-30-2002, 11:59 AM I think I've got enough lead in my house now that Superman would have a hard time looking thru to see what I'm up to.
If the EPA ever finds out - I'll need an environmental lawyer.
Saltheart/Smokey jigs are killers. Order now boys, they ain'ta gonna last. Trust me.
Slipknot 03-30-2002, 01:23 PM Put me down for a dozen, I'll add it to what I owe you. Thanks :)
Saltheart 03-30-2002, 02:32 PM Half these jigs are sold already . Sorry Smokey , I'm not counting any for us yet! :)
redcrbbr 03-30-2002, 09:01 PM saltheart...put me in for 6/$20 worth, can hook up with you in a week or two if that is ok.
thanks bob
jenty 03-30-2002, 09:23 PM Can someone please tell me what a 'skin jig' is? Anyone have a pic? Thanks!
johnny
Saltheart 03-30-2002, 11:48 PM OK Redcrabber. Got six set aside for you.
Jenty , I don't have a pic. maybe someone else does.
Saltheart 03-31-2002, 10:47 AM Here's the jig
Scotch Bonnet 03-31-2002, 12:17 PM How do you rig it. Is it for just for skins or can you use whole dead eels? I was thinking of using dead eels on a 3oz black jig head for fishing the Watch Hill reefs as it is hard to get an eel down in this current.
East Tide 03-31-2002, 03:26 PM Saltheart, I'm sure you are aware of my living situation (MO.) I will be home for a month of fishing.
1) I will be home on May 16. Will the jigs have been shipped/ready by then?
2) Maybe you could post or e-mail with your address so we can float you some cash.
3) provided they will be at my house in MA when I get home I would like six of those lovely jigs.......
Saltheart 03-31-2002, 07:29 PM Hi Dave , No problem getting them by then. If you want some , send me an email as instructed above.
Saltheart@striped-bass.com
East Tide 03-31-2002, 08:56 PM oops, Sorry saltheart. No one here to hold my hand and walk me through it. thanks for the heads up!!
Dave
tobias 03-31-2002, 09:39 PM Saltheart - Could you put me down for a dozen. Just let me know how you want me to get you the money. Thanks.
Tobias
surfhunter 04-01-2002, 08:31 AM Saltheart,

Surfhunter
Chris 04-01-2002, 08:34 AM Saltheart,
I'd appreciate it if you'd put me down for half a dozen, and I'll send you an email with all of my information.
Many thanks,
Chris
bdsandman 04-01-2002, 08:43 AM Hey Saltheart, sent you an email. I'm in if any are still available. Thanks to you and Smokey for putting this together... Bill
Saltheart 04-01-2002, 09:54 AM Everyone who posted or emailed me is all set. I only have 2 dozen left
nightfighter 04-01-2002, 10:31 AM Please sir, may I have more?
Six for me and I'll add that to the Allstar deposit I will be mailing you today.
Ross
Canalratt1 04-01-2002, 11:12 AM Ok I'll take a half dozen, looks like my own design is still a dream!
Saltheart 04-01-2002, 12:37 PM Scotch Bonnet , for this particular jig you skin the eels then thread them up the hook and tie them on around the end of the jig. There is a little groove that goes all the way around to hold the string. People us floss or string or thin mono or even electrical ties.
Scotch Bonnet 04-01-2002, 12:57 PM I'll take 6/$20 if you got them left. Where do i send the check?
Reeldream 04-01-2002, 08:45 PM Saltheart, I would love 6 if they are still available. Thank you.
Kevin
Saltheart 04-02-2002, 08:46 AM Ok the 15 dozen are all gone (and then some) so that's it till we see how the mold looks after almost 200.
If you just posted here that you want some , please email me at
Saltheart@striped-bass.com
so I don't have to go searching for email addresses. Some people don't have their emails in their profiles. I'm going to deal with all the people who sent emails first then I'll get to trying to contact those who signed up but didn't send an email as instructed.
Fishpart 04-02-2002, 09:44 AM Saltheart,
Can I "store" your skin jig mold for the summer ;)? You certainly wouldn't want it cluttering up your house while you can't use it since all your spare time is going to be used up fishing
I can already sense your answer :laughs:
Slipknot 04-02-2002, 07:13 PM Saltheart I did not send an email as instructed because I can't afford to take a chance that I would take a beating for buying more" stuff I don't need"
Email leaves a trail, you know how it is. That is why I was PM ing you , so if we can, please don't email me ( PM me instead)about me buying more (crap I don't need) I am on the edge already with a fishing vacation in 4 weeks without her, I am lucky to pull that off, I'll tell ya. I'll post pics when I return and a report. I can't wait
Smokey 04-02-2002, 07:53 PM Ha slipknot lets hope grannyknot isn't reading the striper board or the do do is going to hit the fan:smash: :smash:
Saltheart 04-02-2002, 07:57 PM OK Slip. You're all set.
I don't know what crap you don't need but you'll be needing these jigs soon enough! :)
Slipknot 04-02-2002, 09:44 PM Thanks guys, Crap was her word not mine. :smash: I usually let it go right out the other ear, you know. I am in trouble with the cookie jar thing and I'm afraid I will never get ahead unless I come up with something big, and soon. I guess I have to re-direct some of my creativity from plug building to making her happy. Maybe Ca$h will help do it, or jewelry that always works.:D
Smokey, grannyknot, that's a good one :D:happy:
Fishpart 04-03-2002, 06:51 AM Slip, Our wives have the same name and use the exact same words, are they related????
Spare Spool 04-03-2002, 12:44 PM Hi Saltheart, just wanted to make sure that you got my e-mail. Thanks. :bgi:
Saltheart 04-03-2002, 01:29 PM yep , I got it.
surfhunter 04-06-2002, 09:21 AM Did you get my email?
Saltheart 04-09-2002, 07:53 AM Surfhunter , I don't think I did get you email. Send again to Saltheart@striped-bass.com
Be sure to include your screenname Surfhunter so I'll know its you. Some of the emails came in with real names and some are hard to match up to screen names. thanks.
Good news is we have made almost half the jigs already. Expect to be all done pouring in two weeks. I will start to ship some next weekend.
Chris 04-09-2002, 08:00 AM Saltheart, just wanted to check and see if you matched up my email with my screen name (which I'm pretty sure I included in the email). When you get the chance, shoot me an email back with the mailing address for me to send you a check.
Thanks again, and can't wait to see those beauties....
Saltheart 04-09-2002, 05:20 PM I sent an email Chris.
