If anyone can manufacture a decent handline set up for surfcasting that they would like to sell commercially please email me.
I'm looking for some kind of device that would allow people to throw plugs with a handline.
It would need to be professionally presented with packaging and directions.
I don't think I would sell a lot of them so its not like a big business deal or anything.

Thanks -

Is that what you see commerial scuppers useing? A few years ago I seen a guy surf casting crabs and lead with only a handline, he was getting some serious distance. He'd build momentum by twirling it above his head then zing that thing. Is that what you mean, a stick wrapped with line?

I don't know how well it would work for plugging though.

Sweet!
Maybe a high end lint roller would work too.

So I'm not the only one annoyed by that?

I gave up on handlines when I was five years old after fishing the canal with uncles. I think I still have some of the holes in my arse.:bgi:

i've been trying to find a better handline as well -- something to carry with me on my surfing kayak, when I can't carry anything big. here are some of thing things i've found (only one of which is really suitable for me):

this is the streamlines handline, the smallest available, professionally made, comes with instructions; but maybe it's only good for ponds and streams: www.streamlines.com

this is a do-it-yourself handline for bigger lures. maybe this is exactly what you're looking for: www.hadfield.ca/Gear/spool.html

do a google search under "cuban reel" and you'll find some interesting things. the one cuban reel i know of is made by jeros and you can get em at most wellstocked tackle shops, i think.

finally, this isn't a handline but an updated version of the Pocket Fisherman. I include it here only because it's so weird and great, both at the same time: http://www.emmrod.com

if anyone else has any thoughts, please post em.

I dont know where I saw the pics... maybe here?
people lined up along the beach all with handlines.
they had stripers and/or blues on the sands beside them.

Try searching for tackle shops in south Florida for Cuban Yo-Yo's. It's a 10"+/- plastic hoop w/ 100 yard+/- of 50lbs test. All the temporary guest workers fishing off the bridges heading to South Beach seemed to swear by them.
