Does anyone know where I can find a Delta midi lathe tool rest around 12"? The 6" is a pain in the arse for the canal plugs I'm building. Hafta shift it a few tiimes.

Thanks in advance!

When I had my delta midi I bought the 8 and 12" from Penn State. I think they were like 20 bux each and well worth it.

Mac,

Is that this one?

It just looked "odd" to me so I didn't get it. Is it alright for my Delta Midi?

Thanks!

No, they look the same as the one shown for the carba-tec. Don't buy the carba-tec one though as it has a 1/2" post. The delta has a 5/8" post I believe. I think it is the CLT-J99. They list them as out of stock but are supposed to be back in stock today 2/28. Like Chris said, spend the 20 bux on a steb center( MT2). Worth every penny. I bought the steb centers made by sorby and they were close to 80 bux each.

I just looked for the steb center and didn't find it listed, sorry for the confusion

That particular tool rest from PSI is good becasue you can adjust the position of the post to get closer to the headstock! It's not a bad deal for the money.
I had a 12" tool rest with a 5/8" post custom made!!:btu:

The steb is only in the cataloge. Tell'm what Taper you have & what size center you want. I think they have 2 sizes in 2 tapers, 1" & 1/2"

What's that crown center for? The stock one that came with the lathe is no good?

Thanks

There is no comparison between the stock center and the crown or steb center. They are the nutz, plus they are spring loaded. The thing I like best about them is that you don't have to crank down as tight with the tail stock. On the tool rests posted above , be careful as they look to have 1" posts where as you need 5/8"

Make a tool rest for short money - a piece of 2" x 2" angle iron the width that you want and a 5/8" bolt. Cut the head of the bolt off and if you buy a real long one, cut the threads off also. Have someone (or yourself if you can do it) weld the 5/8 shaft to the angle iron in the center and you have an excellent tool rest.

I stole the idea from CS afer he posted something showing his setup. I now can turn a plug 12 to 14 inches with out moving the rest. :bl:
