Does anyone use this in their boats? Be a pain in the a** but for $.70 per gallon, oh ya.

Just curious, how about svo?

I'm no expert on this subject, but bio-diesel is different from cooking oil and, at the price you're quoting, I'm guessing you are talking about cooking oil not bio-diesel. Diesels can run on cooking oil, but they need to be started with regular diesel and then swicthed over and then switched back, before they are shut down. But, to answer the question, I have never (knowingly) run bio-diesel in my boat.

I wonder if the fish would be attracted by the french fry exhaust? From what I've read, biodiesel is a superior fuel to regular diesel in a newer motor, with the exception of cold weather gelling.

Yeah, its a popular trend now with autos and I saw a piece on TV that was saying not only is it cleaner for the environment, but the truck being tested put out more torque.

MM the $.70 per gallon is to make a biodiesel blend of 90/10. I wonder if the hassel of making and transporting to the boat would be worthwhile.

Just some stuff going through my head.

I have heard all about it, but I don't personally know of anyone running it on the road, let alone in the water....

New Van is bio diesel compatible already. I plan on investing in a still sometime very soon.

Bio-diesel costs a lot more then .70. I have seen it for something like $3.70/gal. It generally costs more then reg diesel when ever I saw it . While it is a "green" fuel, I don't think it has the same energy density of fuel from the earth. The reason it costs more is it takes energy to actually make it. If you can get it for .70 I would look into it closely before you fill up.

I think you are confusing cooking oil at 70 cents a gallon with bio-diesel that costs more than regular diesel. They are two very different things.

Yes its true that most gas stations selling B5 do charge the same or more for the biodiesel, but if you make it yourself, much cheaper but you do need to through in some elbow grease.

From what I understand, most restruants will give you their waste oil for free which is where the 70 cents comes in.
I was only asking if people were using or considering using.

Satybugger, please keep us informed on the process and pheasibility of homebrew fuel. I would be very interested in your findings.
