da wifes tire went low so she went to fill and check it ,the guy at station ,and I know him ,said it was dryrot ...I thought this was a thing of the past with the old ply tires..Is this common and can I get some type of man. warranty,cause the threads are still in great shape:confused:

That stuff on tires will cause the side wall to dry wrot

milo, have your tire guy check the date of manufacter on the tires, if they are 6 years old or better, can them, not safe.
I have a friend tho, had some goodyear tires on his truck, only 2-3 years old, dry rotted, lots of tread, the tire dealer pro-rated, from the tread wear, got 4 new tires for what about one would cost, mounted and balanced.

Just had 4 new tires put on my truck at BJ's. The side walls pretty dryrotted. They were probably 8 years old.

I always found that tires not inflated properly that ride on sidewall split or become infected with dry rot. For example, tires deflated regularly for beach use split and get dry rot. My f 250 tires had to be relaced more frequently because of that, which isn't a bad thing.

I find if you don't drive much, Park in the sun, park on dirt and grass rather then black top, your tires will rot!!

Stay on black top, out of sun, and maintain the air pressure, and move the car from time to time.

Boat tires are always rotted long before they wear down!! I try to keep them covered all the time and park on some patio blocks rather then the dirt. Take the tires off in the winter and put in basement, They last much longer now!!
