View Full Version : Proposed dates for 1st 2 legs of S-B C&R Tourney!

OK - mark yer calendars now! How are these for the first 2 dates for the 4 leg tourney?

June 8th - Rhode Island - definite & solid date

July 13th (or 20th - better tides?) - Mass/Cape Cod

For those that are new to the site - the 4 leg tourney is where we all get together to char some meat & seafood, chany fish songs, and try to catch some fish. We had a ball last year even with luke-warm participation from the fish. This year will be better...

Hey John, generally how do these things work? The 8th is the start of my week long vacation in Orleans , so just wondering about the specifics so I can figure out whether I can make it. Thanks in advance.

Sounds good to me but I also would like to know how they work? Do we all get together and fish the same area? Do they start in the morning and end the next morning? I know just show up and have fun:smash:

OK

Guys...the two that I have been to went like this....

John and others decide on a meeting spot....in Mass last year it was the Scusset parking lot, and in Rhody it was Don M's shop.....We eat food, bs for awhile...maybe 2-3 hours....then a few guys leave for other commitments or whatever....5-10 others get together and go to a particular spot, (that is hemmed and hawed about at the eats thing)....;)....others go there own way with one or two other guys...

It's pretty much laid back....meet up, eat and talk, and then do what you want.....and a lot of fun....:)

June 8th I have my cousin's wedding... of course, there is no weekend in June that isn't already planned out. Every year I swear I'll make no plans and every year the summer seems to get busier. June 15 my dad's coming up. That's actually cool, he's coming up to fish. June 22... ohhh, here's a fun one... my wife's girls weekend. That made Boston this year. Lucky me. I was informed I'd have the kid that whole weekend. Tell me that isn't the weekend of the MSBA boat tourney... I'll figure out something 'cause I'm fishing that.

July 13th sounds pretty good... especially since July 13th (friday the 13th) of last year was the day I caught my biggest striper to date. 13 must be my lucky number in the eyes of the fish gods.

Where we gathering June 8th?

BTW , the first leg is the best leg for the ......Strawberry Shortcake. :) The berries are in season.

Last year , with no fruit flying do to Sept 11 , berries were pretty scarce by the fourth leg.

I know it sounds like an unimportant fishing detail right now but come June 8th when your mouth is watering as you wait for a strawberry delight , it'll seem a lot more important then!! :)

I'm thinking that we invade Weekapaug again. I know we definitely want to do so for the fall leg but perhaps if Don is willing to put up with us again in June ;) ...

mmmm - Strawberries (safer than Blueberries before a night out but not by much ;) )

I'm in for that leg. I will bring a load of steamers if somebody has one of those propane cookers to boil the large pot. These are restaurant qaulity, no sand, yum,yum clams. Everyone will want to avoid the Charlestown Breachway as there is never any fish there the weekend of June 8th.....

Saltheart

Oh Yeah! Steamers sound good Scotch. You bring em , we'll figure a way to cook them. These people eat big so bring lots! :)

John et al,

You are all welcome to make the shop your home base for the June leg. Charlie and I will keep the shop open all night for you. We will have coffee and snacks for one and all.

There are 2 grills available also.

We look forward to seeing all of you.

Thanks for the hospitality Don. I know everyone appreciates it. I assumed we would meet at Weekapaug and only asked about where in case John had planned something with the "Blueberry crowd" on the other side of the bay.

I better make the one in RI since I won a rod last year and a plug that Don our gracious host donated. ;) BTW do you still have them? I'm also planning on the Mass. leg with my guide service available for Ditch apprentices who want to become an official "canal rat", yes Specialist you can go! Right now I'll be looking for some road kill for burgers!

TheSpecialist

When can I call myself a canal rat? plenty of fish up here now, I can reach the end of the pier at nut isl. from the parking lot with the new rod. :D Got herring??

And don't forget those of us who are NOT married anymore, yet still with children.

Will hope to make July 13. Mebbe with kiddos even! They'll be breaking in their new Easter rods this weekend.

Let's see... three days til I get my Allstar from Saltheart, and one month, one day til Christmas, I mean Cuttyhunk! And I thought I was jumping outta my skin waiting for this three months ago!

Sure Mar T I'll teach you a few tricks. On our Ma. leg I will take a few brave souls to fish the Ditch. Depending on the tides we will chunk, fish live eels or jig. Last year Specialist fished with me and on a slow night we still managed 10 fish and Specialist nabbed his first Ditch keeper.

Hey if i can i'll try to make it that is if you don't mind a transplant from maine to the flatlands:) and i hope you will give good directions because i still can't find anything in RI except the west wall (i have officially made it my 2nd home and the fiance has threatened to make it my first home lol) and if anyone has a suggestion on antything i can bring it would be cool.
p.s. looking forward to meeting some of you fishing flatlandas :) and hopefully catching some good sized fish.

Duhhh :smash:

Guess I should make more of an anouncement, eh?

I'll delve into the deeper details this weekend but Saturday, July 13th, we'll meet at M&D's in Wareham - time to be determined - burn some perfectly good meat into indistinguishable pieces of coal and head off for the 1st Mass Leg of the Second Annual S-B 4 leg tourney :D ... Open areas from Quincy to Westport to Race Point - just to give a little extra flexability :D ... I'll put more details together over the weekend but we need to determine a time and I have first call on BM if he's interested :D :p :laughs:
