Going down soon to throw bucktails for Reds in Fla. and I was told by someone who does or doesn't know that they have small mouths and a good size hook could impede hookups.Anybody with any experience catching reds with this method.I've been told to use between 1.5 to 3 ounces.

When i go to texas i chase them with a fly rod and sinking pink decievers. yes, they have small mouths, but there are other things to consider. They have poor vision and rely on scent heavily. use smelly jelly or bunker oil on your bucktials..better yet, throw a fresh dead shrimp on the hook and chum with real dead shrimp. Also, Reds are crazy for gold spoons.

You want to go to a site called Hatterasoutfitters.com. Look for a guy named Gouge. Guys on that site do a lot of redfish fishing and Gouge is the Florida expert. very knowledgeable site and guy for fishing down that way.

Much obliged folks,my friends Dad moved down to Melbourne a couple years ago and he walks an outflow drifting shrimp in the daytime and does well on occasion.A friend recently went down and threw bucktails with success.We'll see how it goes,taking the oldest to Disney and Universal and then to visit friends on the coast for a couple days chasing reds and jacks.Pix will follow if Mr. Big is located.

Redfish are fun at times you can find them bottom feeding in the flats with their tail in the air. But they are easily spooked try a jig head with a plastic shrimp tail use the smelly jelly also. The color that has worked well for me in the shrimptail are chart w/glitter in it with a red tail and red body w/white tail. Also if you have a chance down there look for cocahoe lures its a type of minnow lure gold body green back has done me well. Good luck. Redfish is good eat'in try it blackened:drool: .
