My Mom just got a new computer.....she has Windows XP.....

She is pi$$ed cause the digital camera she bought a year ago is evidently not compatable with XP.....she also just yesterday bought a scanner....not even out of the box yet, and she doesn't think it is compatable, either....evidently on both, it's a driver problem....

E-mail she sent me with the camera specs:

"The camera is a HP photosmart 215, model #C8890A. The software with it is from ArcSoft, it is arcsoft photoimpression version hpps2, photomontage version hpps2 and HP 215 Camera Drivers. It's the camera drivers that are the problem. The software downloads fine but the computer can't use the drivers."

So, any ideas, commments, etc.?

Thanks.

Never mind....after a lot of hassle, she was able to track down the correct driver for $10.50, which has to be mailed to her.....evidently the manufacturer of the camera can't put it on line due to some Microsoft Copyright problems.....

windows xp is a big pain.... where as windows 98 has much less compatability issues... you can sub-divide your hard drive with partition magic and then install win 98 on that partitiion for a dual boot set-up and have both windows xp and windows 98 on the same PC . manufacturers have to supply driver files for their products and its always a good idea to go to their site long before
Micro$oft.... just remember that driver files sometimes take a freakin walk...and have to be reloaded to replace a corrupt set of driver files. then you'll be good to go... later, Raven

the thing with windows xp is this....first you get your PC and set it up. then you'll need to get an activation code to get windows xp to work ->you have to call micro$oft. Sure ...you'll have a key code but you'll need an activation code as well. The main thing to remember is that micro$oft doesn't want you to install it on more than one PC so its best to have any peripherals already attached (printers, scanners ect) before you activate the operating system.
If you add things "afterwards " and reboot then windows XP thinks its on a whole different computer and notifies micro$oft and suddenly your operating system wont work until you get a new activation code.............thats the stinky part! Later, Raven

After four days, and long nights, I finally got both my Iomega Zip drive, and new HP Photosmart printer working. I completely lost my Xp and the computer would'nt boot to windows this morning. After an hour with Dell, 1/2 with Iomega, and 1 with HP I am good to go. Except for my Sony digital camera, I can't find the cd, I emailed them to get a new one. Hopefully it will install ok.
