Anyone interested in an informal "boaters only'' tournament? No prizes, just for braggin rights on the boaters forum. We'll go by weight and we'll use the Honor system as we all should have HONEST scales on our boat. If theres a tie then theres a tie! Only 2 species - Bass and Bluefish - to keep this simple. If anyone has any suggestions lets here em before the Large show up.......

sounds good to me, we could monitor a specific radio channel and if someone hooks up with a bigg fish they could announce over the radio. just a thought

Lets have a registration on this post. I'll keep the names and weights posted above my computer. Maybe JohnR can do this on this forum? Mr.Kav, later this week pick a channel that we will monitor.

i might have misunderstood the previous post, would this be a one day tournament or year long?? if it is year long we could post biggest of different species, if it is one day then we could keep in touch out on the water via radio or cell phones.

Sounds cool. Like Mr Kav said, is this like a year long tourney?

Scotch Bonnet

Year long. I think it would be best if everyone register before we start seriously fishing though to keep it fun. If we could all post pictures of our fish(not manditory) that would kind of verify the weight and also provide some eye candy for this forum. I know the camera is a jinx, but there are lots of pictures of big fish so this can't be all truth ;)

How about this "any member of Striped-Bass.com who fishes from a boat and is registered on this thread by April 22,2002". This gives everybody two weeks notice to get on board. So far I have Mr.Kav, 179, Fishsmith, Duke41?, GBoutdoors, JohnR(on GB's boat), Striper1 and myself. This is gonna be fun!

aND What if you take members of S_B out on your boat, shouldn,t they count if they catch a good fish ????

and maybe trolling should not be allowed,is that really fishing??

my boat has no scale or camera on board [unless John brings his] Then What ??????????????

Count me in, the registration fee is right. Guess I'd better buy a scale; been thinking about a Boga, but I'm scared to death I'll drop that chunk of change overboard
Anybody interested in adding Fluke to the species list?

Scotch Bonnet
04-08-2002, 07:59 PM
Clammdigger - 1) every member of S-B who registers before April 22 nd can fish in the tournament 2)Trolling will be allowed 3)buy, borrow or steal a scale;) . I envision this as a very laid back, fun kind of tournament without prizes($$$). Lets try to keep it simple and fun. This tournament will give us all a little competitive edge this fishing season.

I'm in and I'd say year long to any registered striped-bass members, who catch a bass out of a boat. No charters and if you like trolling, you better not come fishing with me :). Maybe each boater or each person that wants to register has to come up with an entry fee, whatever they want but something of value to put into the year end lunker pot. I know what I'll be throwing in :), they are 9 & 13 inch and they will be black, deep blue or purple.

Scotch Bonnet
04-08-2002, 08:28 PM
GS, the reason I thought "no prizes" is because that seems to bring out the nasty in some people. There will be no way to verify weight(unless we kill everything), so lets try to keep the $$$ out of this tourney. Also, a qaulity scale can be bought for $10-$30 and they also come in handy setting your drags. And whats all this bad mouthin about trolling - my biggest bass came trolling a tube and worm along Narragansett in my canoe - NOW THATS FISHING(Native American style).

You guys is discriminating against me.

What if John and the Rubba Man come out with me. We experiment with some big rubba and get lucky and bang a biggy. You mean to say because I runs a Charter Boat that Johns fish is disqualified?

I was going to sign up just to be on the list in case any of the guys that fished with me before came out we would be covered for the contest but I guess I might as well not bother cause youse is picking out us Charter Types.

I got complexes enough with out youse picking on me!

Scotch Bonnet

If everyones OK with a charter capt in the tournament then its OK with me. Where not discriminating against you -WE JUST FEAR YOUR AWESOME STRIPER CATCHING SUPER POWERS!!!!!!!The reason I posted "no charters'' is because I had thoughts of inviting my friends' father and brother (who are successfull srtiped bass charter captains) out on my boat to score some large fish for the tournament and then realized this is not fair. I have a feeling this will not be as easy as planned. :chatter

Consider me registered, the "Beach Blonde" out of Ct. I don't keep a lot of fish, and my Boga only goes to 30.Maybe length/girth would be easier?

im in .and i think anyone who signs up before the dead line charter capt. or not should be eenterd. just because there a charter capt does not mean they will catch the biggest fish good fishing too all

Scotch Bonnet
04-09-2002, 09:52 PM
OK.......Lets see if were all on the same page - A guy pays $500 to fish for bass on charter boat and reels in a 40 lb'r, that fish will count? I think Nor'Easter and all other charter captains who are members of S-B should be allowed to fish in the tournament, they are the cream of the crop and we could all learn alot from them. I just honestly don't feel like ''I CAUGHT'' any of the big bass I've taken on charter boats, what do you guys think?

I'm in. Just yanked the cover off today. Fish from Old Saybrook to Charlestown B-way. Boats on a trailer so I'm mobil. Let me know if I qualify

The stakes are too high to let a charter capt. in, and since I'm not one , I vote no way! Just kidding, everyone's welcome as far as I'm concerned.
I will tell you this though, every spring I fish on the Anna R out of Noank for a half day trip, it's become a tradition for us. And I am always hard pressed to catch a bigger fish the whole rest of the year. A guy who does it everyday and for a living, is just gonna be better.

well.. just in case i'm out in my little 14' jon boat coming back with a load of quahogs or steamers with the family and happen to trip over moby striper. i'd like to have a shot at braggin rights. not only that.. if i happen to be a guest on someones boat, i'd like to be covered too.

I'm in... sounds like fun and a good opportunity for some friendly competition.

As for the charter thing, my opinion is that everyone should be invited. But this is a recreational fun tourney.

I think its for the SB.com boaters and their SB.com guests.

How about if we go with fish caught while not involved with a paid charter. Whether that be as a client or as a guide. That would seem to remove that controversy and allow our charter captains to participate. Hey, we are going by the honor system, right?

JohnR
04-10-2002, 01:06 PM
I have no problem with the charter boys, but their clients need to have the minimum requirements that all of our tourney's have ;) - minumum of 10 posts and registered two weeks before an event or before participating in any tourney... How's Dat?

Hey, I would be willing to take some S-B landlubbers out some time - you might have to drive to Old Saybrook though. But (you listening John?) don't be showing up with one of those 5 gallon bucket porta potti thingys - I just don't have the stomach for that - whoa !

That aways ifin you get's to come we can enter your fish as well as mines.
Salt Heart and Smokey know I don't get a chance to "fish" much what with running the boat in where I fish!

We be looking for having Fun!

There we have it. All tackle, All methods, just minimum of 10 posts and registered 2 weeks before tournament. 19 so far.............

I vote no on the charters also. These guys are out there 5-7 days a week during the peak season with 2-4+ rods out constantly. It would be awful hard for some of us weekend warriors to compete with that. Maybe to solve that you could say it's a small boat tournament, with boats up to 24-25' allowed.

I think the best part of this whole tournament will be keeping tabs on who caught what.......:)

Scotch Bonnet
04-11-2002, 09:16 AM
I think it will raise the competitive level of the tournament(and won't step on anyones toes). It will be that much sweeter if one of us small boaters wins with a big fish!

It would be nice to top the 40 mark again, I saw two last year, but prior to that it was too many years going back to the last one. What I want on the end of my line again is another 50, many someday before I'm too old.

do ya have to sign up here? or can all members participate? I sometimes go out on boats fishing too.

Scotch Bonnet
04-14-2002, 09:36 PM
Slip, I figured a registration before the season started would make things interesting. We can get to know who the boat fishermen(and friends of boat fishermen) are on this site and get a little friendly competition going as well. Did I read you were a past winner of a S-B tourney? If so, how big was that winner?

JohnR
04-15-2002, 07:59 AM
Scotch & Slip - I think someone needs to be a member for a couple weeks & for say 10 posts. That way someone that signs up in July can still get in for the fall run.... We may wish to run a sign-up thread (or use this one) just so people can get in on it...

Slip had a 32+ pound bass that came from SHORE to win the year long tourney - easily worth a 43 from a boat, comparitivly speaking of course ;)

Scotch Bonnet
04-15-2002, 07:02 PM
Nice fish slip! John, sounds good, we'll keep it open ended as far as registration goes. Maybe a sign up thread and a fish entry thread. Forget the fall, this baby will be won by the end of June!!;)

GBOUTDOORS
04-15-2002, 07:37 PM
I think John is right two weeks after signing on the site and ten posts would make it fare to all. When does it start as I caught 6 fish tonight off the boat and would like to start this thing off. All on top water stillwater lures. Could be some big fish up early this year.
