View Full Version : Rhody surfcasters
Spare Spool 04-09-2002, 12:20 PM I read somewhere recently (my memory might not be entirely accurate) that Rhody surfcasters are so secretive and known for being so tight lipped, that two Rhody fishermen were once chosen to hold the winning envelopes for the Academy Awards.
Do you think there is any truth to this (the tight lipped part)? :D :laughs:
Saltheart 04-09-2002, 02:34 PM I won't say!
Don M 04-10-2002, 03:06 AM What's a Rhody Surfcaster? Have not seen one or heard one! Must be a secret fraternal organization or something. Do they wear rings?
Bob Senior 04-10-2002, 04:01 AM What's a surfcaster?
nightfighter 04-10-2002, 04:11 AM Where's Rhody?
Stars and Stripers forever!
JohnR 04-10-2002, 07:02 AM What's an "envelope"
Mal Greene 04-10-2002, 07:14 AM Rhody surfcasters may be a secretive bunch, but what can you expect from a state with just a few miles of coastline. Come on up to Maine and our 3000 miles of coastline for some elbow room and excellent stripering. Things heat up around May first. Mal
chris L 04-10-2002, 08:38 AM dude
look at a map RI has over 400 miles of coastline !for a very small state Thats a lot of shoreline ! now if we could just annex that to Ct we would be all set .
Rich R 04-10-2002, 03:02 PM Chris,
You got that backwards my friend. If CT annexed RI, there would be no shoreline to fish!
TheSpecialist 04-10-2002, 03:07 PM Tight lipped huh, as in lip lock, were they seen in P-Town?
Scotch Bonnet 04-10-2002, 04:54 PM If I have my RHODY trivia correct - I believe RI has the most total coastline of any state in the good ole USA:bshake:Alright - maybe its in relation to size(%) or something- I been known to get my facts mixed up-but we got alot of coastline!
Slipknot 04-10-2002, 05:23 PM I think that distiction goes to Maine.
TheSpecialist 04-10-2002, 05:31 PM What about Florida, or California??
STRIPER77 04-10-2002, 05:54 PM There are no Rhody surfcasters!!! That rumor was started in the 70's by some surf author. Any self-respecting Rhode Islander surf fishes in Conn. where they enjoy the benefits of fishing from PRIVATE PROPERTY!!!!:ss:;)

YUP:D
AnthonyN 04-10-2002, 11:52 PM Yes rhody does have the most coastline based on size than any other state in the US of A and we also have the highest population density with New Jersey taking a close second....
Don M 04-11-2002, 07:30 AM Looked these up to answer the trivia stuff in the thread.
Rhode Island has 384 miles of coastline, Based on square milage and total area (AnthonyN and Scotch Bonnet are right on on that one), has the most coastline.
Most continous coast line is Florida 3148
Most over all coastline(this includes islands and saltwater inlets)
is Maine 3345
chris L 04-11-2002, 07:50 AM rich
your right ! Im just dreaming of a state with access for its people .
Scotch Bonnet 04-11-2002, 08:17 AM Thanks for that info Don, interesting stuff! So now we all agree, RI has the best striper fishing in the world!!!!!!!
nightfighter 04-12-2002, 01:17 AM Shhhhhhh......
The coastline of Maine is the most beautiful cruising grounds in the world (IMHO) the great majority of which cannot be reached or even seen by car. Now if only the water weren't so damn cold.... well that keeps a lot of the unwanteds out.
