I was the third guy (and high hook I might add!) onboard fishing with Armand and JT on this now infamous trip and beleive my opinion should be heard. I would have posted here sooner if is wasn't for a family medical emergency the last few days, that's thankfully fine now. Thank you R.I. Hospital staff!
J.T's reason for posting about the incedent was to be helpful to fellow anglers by warning everyone about a "bad apple" on the water. I've fished with J.T. and Armand many times on Armand's boat, my boat and Dave Fewster's boat.
The Captain of Kayman Too contacted Armand and J.T. yesterday with a sincere apology. He's a gentleman, NOT A BAD APPLE. Being a Monday morning quarterback, it's too bad he didn't get us on the radio moments after the incedent. Mistakes were made on the Kayam Too and the Captain made it right with a sincere apology. IMO, don't punish the guy, and try to destroy him. It's not right. Me, J.T. and Armand accept his apology and we hope others will also. The Captain did not make the racial remarks, his moron customer did.
If you put it all in perspective, if the moron customer didn't shoot his mouth off with the sickening racial stuff, both boats would have parted within minutes, moved on and forgotten about it. Everyone's out there to have fun, right? By the way, no one reported that the seas were flat calm on monday!!!
Pertaining to distance between boats, here's what happened. It's pretty simple. We were doing about 20 kts looking for fish when Armand marked a nice pile of fish. We stopped and dropped our lines. Our position had nothing whatsoever to do with the Kayman Too. I saw them off our starboard and without a doubt was very comfortable with our distance.
I have no tolerance for racial hatred . This was the worst example of racial bigotry I've ever witnessed in my life. Someone on this forum wrote on a previous post they knew the party who was on board that day. That's the villain, not the captain. I truely hope that person is not a member of RISAA. I'm a member of RISAA along with Armand, J.T. and many friends and anglers, and I will not associate with such a bigoted hateful person. There is no place in RISAA for such a person. I attend RISAA monthly meetings and I hope that guy is never there.
Lastly, I have the utmost respect for our military men and woman along with their familes. Their risk & sacrifice, past and present provides my family's awesome freedom. The person on that charter insulted Armand and J.T who both wore the uniform and served in the U.S. Army.
Let's go fishin'!
