I hope they are done soon!:jump1:
Squid kids Dad 03-17-2006, 11:07 PM BF..Coventional????..Oh my:huh:
I'm picking up a 9 foot lamiglass s-glass rod tomorrow from CMS. don't remember the blank numba.
Hopefully getting a 1201L built soon too.:D
JFigliuolo 03-18-2006, 04:42 AM I'll be testing out some of the rack. Hopefully find what I'm looking for. If I don't I'll at least pick up a new spool.
spence 03-18-2006, 06:32 AM I picked up two new sticks toward the end of last season that are still pretty much new. A Lami 1201L with 4" cut off the tip done conventional and a glass Lami 1143F with 3" from the tip done spinner.
Love both rods so fer...

nightfighter 03-18-2006, 06:51 AM I have a 1088 Rainshadow blank that needs to be wrapped and a custom Lamiglass customwrapped 11'6" that I won at PISC. I may want to sell that one as it just doesn't fit in the arsenal. Tim, who donated it, had it wrapped for getting eels out there to the bars, and said it loaded up really well.
Clogston29 03-18-2006, 06:57 AM I got a new all star 1265 conventional cut down to 10' from the butt with a calcutta 400b which I really like so far. I still have a ways to go in getting comfortable with. the conventional thing though. I also picked up a 9 ft all star e-glass spinner rated 1-4. Its heavy but it'll throw anything, 3/4 oz bucktails to bombers to atom 40s and big habs needles. Very versatile and tought stick. I think it'll be great for eeling the rocks too.
nightfighter 03-18-2006, 07:03 AM You're gonna love the 1265, especially when you get comfortable to really load up a 2.5 oz plug on the convench!
basswipe 03-18-2006, 08:04 AM A Batson 1088.
108 1L.? I would use heavier rods for largemouth bass.
I had a 132 1L.It lasted bout ten trips b4 i folded it in half casting a 2.5 needle.I prefer the 108 1M i have the factory rod.Served me well. I had a 10' 542 wrapped spinning for me this fall past my new favorite rod.
There seems to be this surgence back towards conventional tackle. For casting on the beach.I don't really understand it.I guess some just consider it more fun.Which is fine i still think it is harder to fish with has way to many limitations.an on a long walk it has a greater chance of a reel malfunction that will render it useless.I have used convetionalls allot I always joke around an say i can cast a swivel. In the surf they just don't make sense to me.Eel man uses em an he certainly has more big fish than me but it hink thats just circumstance.Slower retrieves or lets say it right Less Line retrieved per turn of the handle will have u in better contact with ur offering.an u won't have to worry bout windknots with needles. There's a plus.
Good luck wit the new sticks.
numbskull 03-18-2006, 09:54 AM On the other hand, I've used a lami 1081L (missing ~1.5" from the tip) for 15years, wrapped conventional, with a 6500 and 17lb mono, then a calcutta 400 with 20lb fireline (and in a pinch with a small newell and 25lb mono). I've taken fish to 40lbs with it. I've used it to throw eels, light needles, bombers, but mostly big wood, 2-3 oz. It strains a bit over 3 oz and 3.5 is it's limit, and I suspect it would suck wrapped as a spinner for anything over 2oz (it's action is too slow at that weight), but for a conventional setup to use from the beach, it is absolutely all you need. It is a very smooth rod, with alot of strength, but it's moderate action means you can't get much elevation when fast to a big fish. If you fish rocks and swift tide, forget it, but from open sand or unobstructed inlets it is a great rod. I haven't picked up a big spinner since the day I first cast it. It has also stood up to a heap of abuse. I think you've made a very good choice.
tattoobob 03-18-2006, 10:03 AM Last fall I picked up a XSRA 1203-2 and liked it so I just picked up a XSRA 1084 to throw heavier lures I can't wait to use them
libassboy 03-18-2006, 11:19 AM I have two new lamis a 1322 and a 1362m. Two new Rs also, 1264, and 1266.:humpty:
Flaptail 03-18-2006, 12:44 PM Does a new 8wt two piece Orvis POWER Matrix or a 4 pc 9wt Sage count? I will use them in the surf, sometimes, maybe, we'll see, just might, could you know, I might give it a shot, have to wait and see, ramble, ramble ramble.:jump:
Backbeach Jake 03-18-2006, 12:48 PM Tsunami 71/2 foot one piece with a 712z. Rated at 1/2-2oz. My new light lure and rubba rod.

Whip - 30'/ whip (depending on how good you are) 75 to 100'
Dont strip, mend, let the current do the work, bang fish on:D
12" menhaden fly, I doubt it's a schoolie :hihi:
BigFish 03-18-2006, 05:49 PM I don't think NIB has ever fished a conventional 108 1L......I have caught most of my fish on that rod over the past 4 years......it has caught alot of fish and also a few good size fish.....I use it for throwing plugs to 2-2 1/2 ounces during the day. I would like a couple more just like it! Size does not matter NIB....you gotta know how to play the fish.:uhuh:
UserRemoved1 03-18-2006, 06:14 PM Bigfish I have a 1081 and it's a sweet rod I enjoy fishing it.

U r right my only experience with a L rod is in the 11 fter.
I usta use the 108 M in spinning an have landed 1000s of fish with it.Now thats no lie.I really can't imagine going lighter than that.I have alot of conventionals I have over 60 rods.I have a 8 power gator blank made into a 9 fter that is pretty light. I tro small jigs wit a 6500 wit it.I especially like the glass for figting fish.I have flippin sticks that will break a 108L.Maybe one day U will teach me how to play A fish.I usually just reel em in an let em go.i hope I am not doin anything wrong.:hihi:
Like i said i hope u have good luck wit it an hook a big one.
Its obvious the area's or type of fishing u do are different than the types or style that I fish.nothing wrong with that just different.Tony STEZKO uses smaller lighter rods hasn't hurt him.Too each their own.

Of course i made a typo.Should read 20 yd cast.I have never emptied the fly line.or come close to it.I have read Kenny's book an I usta do alot of my flyfishing in the river.Half a weighted line an mono it was more like jiggin than fly fishing.Don't do it much anymore.i actually broke it out this past fall an had some funn wit some smaller fish.first time in yrs..I usta fly fish all the time before it became gay.All the fly guys today look like they fell out of some orvis catalog.
Now don't all the fly guys get thier feathers in a uproar.I get enough heat.:D
12 inch bunker pattern what ya cast that wit a spey rod.
SAXATILUS 03-18-2006, 08:18 PM I was just teasin ya dude. I cast it with one of kens rod's, The sitck, a true surf fishin fly rod.
I remember meeting him like 6 yrs ago.His glass rods where a little soft for me.I liked his Fly's I tie some similar. Very sparse. There was this kid Matt in My Fishing club Poor SOB is a transplant from RI.He showed me these flys.Right out of kennys books very nice perfect.I asked him bout them said he had fished wit kenny some.I tried to hook em up here but he didn't drive yet an lived kinda far away.I only take the long rod out at night now.Its kinda like riding a Moped.or Hookin up wit a fat girl. They are fun too ride but u don't want ur friends to see ya on one.
BigFish 03-18-2006, 10:57 PM :laughs: You reel in the fish when you play them?:hihi: Sorry NIB....didn't mean to sound so pompous there!:laughs:
