I have never really gone cod fishing in the early spring and was thinking maybe this is the year to start. The need to get on the water is just too strong to wait for May to go Striper fishing. I usually don't trailer becuase I have slip in Falmouth, but I live about 15 minutes from the Sandwich Boat Basin, so trailering there is no big deal.

How far do I have to go out? I was thinking the fishing ledge, or something in that area. I'm not looking for anyone's secret spot, but more of a general idea of where people go and how productive it is in April. I know places to go past P-Town, but was hoping I don't have to travel that far. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. If it's not worth it, I can just wait till May and do my usual rutine.

So this is the time of year of Porbeagle. I'll have to get Chris' boat ready. How bout a small fleet out there?

Believe it or not, the best time to go for Porbeagles in the bay is late october through mid December. They move in real close that time of year. I'm not sure how good things are in the spring.

I could be game in a few weeks.

lots of structure around the dump or you can just look for the hard bottom there are some nice gravel beds out there.

Spring cod in Cape Cod Bay are a rare find these days. No doubt they are there but the doggies will kill ya. Just north of Sesuit harbor by the number one can is an area called Dennis Ledge. Full of rocks, boulders and ledge. Draggers can't work there and historically there was always a March codfish bite there. 10.5 fathoms of water. You'll know it by the irregular bottom. Might be worth a shot. Mackerel often show there in Spring as well.

The bay must be shoaling up there, Steve. Last season, there was only about 44-52 feet of water there and on my poor sonar, the bottom looked almost flat.
