View Full Version : Squidder 140 HELP! missing link 03-22-2006, 12:00 PM Just got a squidder 140 off ebay. There's a screw on the crank side that is supposed to take that whole side off, It turns and kinda come's out and just spin's. I dont want to pust it to much trying to take it off any hints, tricks or tips will be appreciated thanks Mike P 03-22-2006, 12:15 PM The screw is held captive in the plate with a spring--it is not supposed to come all the way out. Hold the reel upright with the handle facing right, just like when it would be mounted on your rod. Loosen the screw, pull it out as far as it will travel, hold it and rotate the entire side plate towards you. It should move about an inch and a half and come free. I don't know the year on the reel seat the# is 30-200. Deep maroon side plates no chips minimal rash chrome good no brassing made in USA. $ 28.00 eeeeeeeeeeeee bay thank's for the help, ML Mike P 03-22-2006, 08:26 PM Deep maroon could be any time from the mid 1960s up to the 1980s. They went to a lighter, brighter red sometime in the early 80s. You can't tell the year by the number on the reel foot--that's just the part number (shared with the Surfmaster 200, which is where the 200 part of it comes in). I got my deep maroon one in the early 1970s from Bradlees in Falmouth. gone fishin 03-22-2006, 08:41 PM All parts are available for the 140. Excellent reel, but slow as paint drying on retrieve. I have one made in the 40's and still fish with it. If you have trouble controlling the cast you can mag that reel. if you do decide to do so PM me and include a fax number. Parts all over the place!! Only difference is the sprader bars and spool from 140 & 146 Most any tackle shop have parts, if not can tell you were3 to get them!! NIB 03-23-2006, 07:15 AM If u have trouble takin the cover off u gonna love putting it back together.That Is if ur takin the guts apart to get to the drag.I haven't done it in a while but it involves turning that big solid C looking piece over the the little gear thing while it hold the springs down.Its really not difficult if u know the procedure.U can really struggle with it if not.
