Kadywampus 03-25-2006, 07:52 AM I've never tried turning Black Locust but it does resist rotting . The telephone company (Ma Bell) used Black Locust to make the wooden spindles that the glass insulators screwed onto . Pete F. 03-25-2006, 09:06 AM I think both are kind of stringy and won't turn well. I don't think rotting is a problem. Backbeach Jake 03-25-2006, 09:48 AM A black locust fencepost lasts about a week less than a granite one. I think that if you seal your plugs, rot isn't a problem. If they work right , they're pretty much toast after a season anyway. garyb 03-25-2006, 11:24 AM thanks for the replys, maybe i try some cedar or basswood first.. jkswimmer 03-25-2006, 08:11 PM I think the tamarack has the twisted grain not the best to turn. crash 03-28-2006, 12:52 PM It'll be hard to stick the paint to locust not sure about tamarack. Locust would make a great bluefish bomb since the paints gonna get destroyed anyways. justplugit 03-28-2006, 04:57 PM A black locust fencepost lasts about a week less than a granite one. Ya got that right Fred. :laughs: :btu: I have one i saved from my uncles farm in my garden that is over 100 years old with still no sign of rot.:) wfmdfm 03-31-2006, 05:33 PM I use cedar deck railings 1.5x1.5 x 36" from Lowes--cheep$$- I think they should last me and then my boys before the rot away. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
