awesome show!!! very well run, great crowd, and awesome spot to have a show. i could only stay for an hour, and i didn't get to hit as many booths as i would have liked, but i scored a few surf asylum plugs and rubber. if you haven't seen these plugs, do yourself a favor and check them out...they look fantastic. it was great meeting dave and dave again...real good guys who took the time to answer any and all questions. saw habs new plugs, too. WOW! defininetly on the list of things to get. props to msba for a great show!

Sorry to say.....I did not enjoy the show. Got there early and was told that I could not go in the lobby area to meet with old friends because it didn't open until 10. Asked to use the men's room but was told it didn't open until 10. What about the poor guy's that traveled a long way to see the show? Couldn't' use the rest rooms? Aisles were small and couldn't move. I will not be going if it's there next year. What happened to the plug turning? All glitz and no glory. More guy's sitting at the bar than at the show. Not as many vendors this year?? Save you money and don't go and go to the RISSA show. Best in the area.

I don't care if the aisles were a little crowded. Do you remember when it was in Filenes basement? Now that's crowded.

Had a great time. Chewed the fat with a bunch of guys and met some members of this site that I hadn't met before. Got some great plugs, Surf Asylum guys make some real nice stuff and you can't beat the price.

I had a blast! Thought the club did a fabulous job with everything! Great hanging with all the folks from here I ran into....it was funny because periodically, a few builders would collide and next thing you new there was wood flying out of bags all over the place!:eyes: Nice seeing and talking with all the folks from here I got to speak with!

Well, if the show is at Gillette next year, this will have been the last year I attend this show.

1. We arrived around 0915 hours to meet and greet, as we have done in the past. Upon meeting many friends, we decided that we'd wait it out inside the warmth at around 0930. First we were greeted by some moron security guard sayind we were parked in the handicapped parking area and if we don't move, we'd received a ticket. Lemme tell you, fella, the lot was not marked as per Mass general law. That's first and foremost. He was a total jerk! Gillette's fault, not MSBA

2. Upon entering the building, we were greeting by a nice lady who promptly asked if we were volunteers. "No" we replied. We were most politely advised :yak: that the show did not start until 10 and we were to leave immediately. When asked if our elder could use the bathroom, we were advised, "I said the show does not open until 10. No you may not" Again, Gillette's fault, not MSBA

3. The show was missing many vendors/people, Hatteras, CMS, Gibbs just to name a few. Was kinda dissapointed about this. They were vendors I grew to appreciate! Oh well, not MSBA's fault.

4. The quarters were cramped, not as in last year. Last year was great....plenty of room, we were warm and had bathrooms at our disposal before the show and even had turning going on. With all the talk about turning, the only place I saw turning was in the heads of anglers. Probably not MSBA's fault

5. How can someone get a 10 foot rod in that place??? The ceilings were only 8' tall at max! This prevented testing newer rods and getting a feel for the new equipment!

6. The empty booths....what gives? Someone forget to pay their bills? Really empty!

I enjoyed seeing people I have not seen around lately but I felt that the show lacked something, yet I can't put my finger on what! The large outfitters, Hatteras, CMS, were not there. It seemed to be missing. The promised turning did not happen, at least according the "red shirts" which we were told to ask. They knew nothing about any "Turning."

I enjoyed seeing people I have not seen, Salty, Mike, Habs, etc. but fear that this was my last.

Everyone has their own opinions and this is mine. To each his own.

Go ahead....crucify me now....I don't care. This is my observation. Msba had a great thing with the inside location but the "Comfort" factor exhibited by the Gillette staff was ridiculous! They should be spanked with a wet noodle for their BS! MSBA should probably tell them that there were many unhappy people with the attitude. It felt like a herring pulling day with 100 people and 7 herring!

Just my opinion...MSBA is a great organization but the Gillette people brought it down!

the msba tries to provide something for everyone, and some people are allways looking for mistakes.
no need to bash the whole show because you forgot to go pee before you left...

I enjoyed the show and got some good deals. Salty Needles for $9, Yozuri Surface Cruiser $11 and hydro pencils for $6. M&D's was loaded but I actually kept my wallet in my pocket. Walked by CMS(THEY WERE THERE) without even looking through the rods too. I'm proud of myself.:

Only thing that sucked was waiting in the lobby to get in. I had to stand next to some smelly dude. I think it felt cramped because there were so many people. If I remember correctly MSBA worked pretty hard to get a venue at all. Gillette seemed like it worked fine. Thought MSBA and Gillette did a great job with the show.

:thanks:

I agree that the MSBA tries hard every year to put on a good show. Don't get me wrong, the show was good but as stated, the "Feel" was not there. I feel that the "feel" can be attributed to the Gillette staff! MSBA is not at fault for that!

As for the Pee...we drove 1 1/2 hours to get there. The least they staff could have done is allow access to the batrooms! What about the guys from Joisey? They were complaining as well. There was some wet pavement in the parking lot and it was not from the rain ;)

MSBA did a good job but Gillette staff needs a little "Customer relations" training!

It was alright, I got what I went for and alittle more. I agree about Gillete not being the best location that its been held at. They should have been much more organized downstairs so that people could line up and it was pretty cramped.

As stated...CMS was there and I am told that Hatteras Jack had a family health emergency going on so had to cancell at the last minute.

Given that this show was put together in a 3 month time frame due to issues which arose regarding our last venue....you gotta tip your hat for the fine job MSBA did with this show in a short amount of time, never mind when you have a whole year to prepare. I gotta say I thought the venue was great, lots of places to hang out, take a load off and chat with folks....made you want to stay all day.

In regards to the turning demo as I said....with the short time frame to work with things did not work out as planned in that regard. It was hoped that the club could get that jump started late but there were a few snags and snafus...maybe it will happen again in the future.

As for a potty....there was a porto-potty in the lot....you had to have driven past it on the way in....about 50 yards from the main entrance. Rules are rules and the Gillette workers have theirs to follow.....otherwise some would take advantage as some always will.

Fishing rods??? Never saw so many leaving the show in new owners hands as I saw today!:bounce:

I cannot believe the pissing and moaniing from someone who had to drive a long distance. :rocketem: If you read the postings on this site and on the bulletins and on the TV and from word of mouth you would have at least the intellegence to make a piss call on the way and arrive at 10 am. That would have eliminated your bitching about the waiting and the toilet availability. The porta potty was there in the lot as BF stated. The ceiling height in the front of the show was no lower than Filenes, but the lighting was poor. Guaranteed that venors will take note and provide more for their booths next show.
As far as the show goes -- I think the show was excellent. There are things to iron out as this is the first time at Gillette. BUT with the count of good customers and shoppers attending, I will bet that all vendors that were not present will be begging for space next year.

THANK YOU PATRICK AND THE MSBA FOR YOUR EXCELLENT EFFORT AND A GOOD SHOW.:bsod: :kewl: :claps: :claps:

Agreed with many on this listing, I though Patrick and his crew did an excellent job. It's not easy to put on a show of this size and please everyone but at least the MSBA crew was able to get it going, which is 90 percent if not more, of the challenge.

The location was good, easy access and a lot of great booths, presentations and people to see and catch up with. Hats off to the MSBA crew. Thanks for an enjoyable day. :musc:

This was the 1st year at this new location and with everything, there will be some learning curves to improve on in the future!

I enjoyed being in the stadium for the first time. As far as the show , the general concensus amongst the three in my car was that it was good but not that good . I never thought about the low lighting on the one side , that might have been part of it feeling subdued.

I too noticed that some of the bigger vendors were absence , don't know why. Anyway , I found the location facinating but overall the show was 50-50 IMO. Hey , first time in a new place , I'm sure they'll work the bugs out for next year.

I would think MSBA would be very interested in all opinions as oppurtunities for improvement , not as criticism , so as to make improvements if possible next year.

As always , one of the best parts of the show was seeing everyone. We all had a good time.

Thought it was great!!
Much better then years past!
First Year in new set up, they will learn and make better each year!

I got there 10:30 and there was no line waiting to get in.

Saw many from the site!!

Saw John, the booth looked great!

Saw BigFish leaving the restroom as I was going in, then he disappeared?? so never got to see him. Must have been the long ride, he had to pee so bad that he was no aware of his surroundings!!

RI Pooper and Samuai working there booth had some nice stuff!! Hope you guys made out great!

Got some stuff from Mike at M&D, his booth was cooking man!! I was passing it a little later and his wife was getting a second of rest and I said it was slowing down, and she had a THANK GOD all over her face!! Great Job Guys!!

My Daughter went with me and bought some Needle fish lures, Her first tackle purchase of her own!! and the honor goes to Salty!!
Salty was great, talked to her and told her just how to fish them, and how to use the rod! Thanks Salty!! she is all excited now!

Also got to meet Pete Santini and sat in on his show, "Boston Harbor Grand Slam" Was a great show told some good stuff!!
I just have one problem Pete, Why didn't you just give us the GPS numbers?;)

All and all, a great show!! and I will go again next year! I am sure they are aware of any problems and will work to fix them for next year, and if anyone has a sugestion I am sure they will listen to them all!

Someone must of had a talk with Van since last year?? I did not catch him sleeping this year! LOL

Great show guys!! Great Job!!

I have had this show date on my calendar since it was announced. Looking forward to it as much as I have been, I was not disappointed. Did I find a reel deal? No. But I got to BS with at least 40 member from this site, picked up some neccessities for the coming year, saw some great speakers, and had the opportunity to learn more from all the knowledgable people I had the chance to ask questions of. Meeting folks from here for the first time and reaquainting with others a second time is one of the primary reasons I look so forward to this event.
Got some nice plugs and rubber from sponsors and am always glad to support you guys. Made some nice additions to my arsenal and even stayed within my budget. Best score, surprisingly, was approximately 5000 yds of Yozuri Hybrid smoke colored for $15.00! Was surprised by the lack of kayak fishing related gear though. Now if I can get the call from the MSBA raffle for the VS reel, life would be gooood!

The MSBA workers are great helping out in whatever they can do to assist. We loded up with all kinds of stuff. Got plenty of Hab's & RM Smith plugs left.

For the amount of time they had, I thought they did a wonderful job. Part of the problem with not letting people use the bathroom early was probably due to the fact that they were all upstairs, and I am sure that the stadium would have been facing a liability issue had they let anyone in early. CMS was there as I bought 2 Fluke rods from them and Mike P bought a custom 1209, so there was room for 10' rods to be displayed. Was the show perfect? Probably not, but it felt alot warmer, more comfortable than years passed. One thing people seemed to complain about was the fact that the ticket price was higher, what they do not take into consideration is the venue is more exspensive, and the vendors paid more without complaining.

Oh well you can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people none of the time.

This was my first time at a MSBA show and I was very pleased with it. I go to all the fly shows but hadn`t been to a all round show in a while. Now to address some of the problems, 1.. the attendant at the door let everyone in at 9:35 so we wouldn`t freeze, we were the first inside, the lobby was packed by the time tickets went on sale. 2.. the cielings were plenty high on the side where most of the rods were, we flexed a number of 9 + 10 ft. against the columns there to get a feel. 3...CMS was there, there will always be some empty booths, chit happens. 4..I didn`t mind the subdued lighting, thought it added ambiance. My only complaint is that I thought it would be bigger. Oh and the food prices! $15 for a cheesburger and a beer! I was there for 5 hours and thouroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Next time I`ll chow down before I go.

I am glad most everyone had a good time today. Personaly, it is a pain of sorts to put together a show as a "vendor" even though I wasn't "vending" stuff :hihi:

I also really appreciate the help from everyone, Mike and Bill especially for all the help today, plus the MSBA volunteers that helped out in most every way possible...

Yes, the Gillette staff was a little heavy handed. How much of that is from handling 66000 people instead of 2-3000? Not sure.

Of course, I am going to bring some bottle caps in tomorrow :hihi:

All in all, thought it went pretty stinkin' good for the first time at this location.

As far as people having a dissenting voice? I am not going to squah someone's fair opinion
and would encourage others to allow people their opinions. Some had a differing opinon than most but we respect that here (usually :hee: )...

Great to see a lot of old hands and meet a few new ones today too :btu: . I will say S-B was WEEEELLLL Represented today!

Hopefully, those guys impersonating CMS will just take the cash and run and not bother putting thru all the credit card receipts :rotfl:

Bob--please don't take this as a knock, but if you came down via 495 you must have passed that Dunkin' Donuts about a mile south of the stadium on Rte 1. If someone had to make a piss call at 9:30, there was plenty of time to head back down, grab a coffee while your friend relieved himself, and get back in time for the doors to open. Also, if you didn't see CMS and thought the ceilings were too low, I'm thinking you missed half the show. The east side of the hall---where CMS was---had celings high enough for them to display 11' Arra rods with ceiling room to spare.

My only complaint is that the concession stands would not sell coffee to the vendors and their reps a second before 10 :(

I've been going to, and occasionally working at, these shows since the Braintree Armory days. I think this was the best show yet for the number of vendors and the amount of goods.

As far as Gibbs not being there---they don't sell retail at the shows, and they haven't come up with new plug models in a couple of years. Charlie from CMS had all the Gibbs you'd ever want (no Canal Specials, however). Plus you had numerous smaller builders there---Habs, #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&, RI Popper, Bliz, afterhours, Al Gags, among others and Charlie even had some Beachmaster needlefish and Atom Jrs. I know guys from NY who are probably kicking themselves on reading this for not coming down and loading up on Beachmaster needles. Some booths had some nice looking plugs I've never seen before. Mike sold out of those Hogy rigged sluggo-type lures, and had some nicely priced stuff from a company called Rhode Island Lures. At times, the line at his register was 20 deep, so I think a lot of people enjoyed it. I wish I had the time to go back tomorrow.

I found deals too, got some youzuri mag darters for $5.50 each what a deal!there were also some for 8.99 which is still less than normal and considering the price is going to jump above 14 bucks each very soon since wholesale is going to be more than 11 I think.
Got some rubber from canalman and his plugs are a bargain. got some plastic from CMS, hooks and rubba from MikeCC
Jenna got a sweet autographed plug from the Habs guy himself :D Jenna says thanks again John :wavey: She was bored because it wasn't in a mall :rollem:so I took her home.
The #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& and McKenna seminar was very good.
I had a great time talking with Big Ed, I listen closely when he speaks kinda like when I listen to Stan Kuzia. Stifftip got a chance to razz me, and VB had some incredible stuff :btu: along with Flaps' stuff and Marty's stuff.

I'm a plain true blue Bud drinker but that UFO was just damn good.Bought a rack on the way home.

Really enjoyed the show and thought the venue for it was excellent. We got there a bit early and hung out, outside (after hecking nib as we drove passed him in the lot). Hung out for a bit spk/w Freak, then went in. Found that it was very cool, because there was enough space so that no vendors were backed into a corner or anything where they couldnt display their stuff, plenty of room to shoot the chit etc, the lounges were cool because if you ran into a few guys you hadnt seen since last spring etc, there were couches etc where you could sit and shoot the %$%$%$%$. The entrance fee at first I thought was a bit steep, as I had expected to pay to park, but there was no charge to park so that evened that out and I found the entrance fee a bit easier to accept. Would I pay the fee again yes. It was great seeing everyone at the show, its always good to get in a few hours around fellow addicts.. umm anglers. I told Patrick a few times during the course of the day that the venue was great and they had done a great job putting it together. Prices for food and frosty beverages are on par with any event held in such a venue, but I'm pretty sure I work for or own Harpoon brewery now... :buds: Good stuff MSBA excellent show and you pulled it off very well, as anything a few things to tweak here and there maybe a port o potty outside for the early birds but all in all the show F'in rocked. Scotty, and I were there from the opening til Close and the way it was setup it wasnt like a death march to get around the place, very comfortable atmosphere, very relaxed not the wharehouse effect you get at some shows..Excellent job MSBA, great showing of SB guys there today. It wont be long now guys! :buds:

Surf Asylum sold out of BLACK before I got there!!! :tear:

I enjoyed the show today. I wasn't there for the venue but the show itself to score on some goodies and see some familiar faces. It was good to see some of the members I've met over the last couple of years and meet some new ones. Met some builders and got some sweet wood (Chumbucket (Matt) a small wonderbread surfster (sort of), PNG (Chris) a couple of large and small Nikes, Canalman (Dave) and F18 (Dave) several different plugs, all out of black rubber at that point but I'm sure I'll get some before it's time to use 'em) also scored a squid beachmaster danny and some needles from CMS. Got to have a laugh and speak with the guys from OTW and check out the Striper Cup. Jay was also nice enough to pose for a picture with the cup with me and my girl. Saw lots of real schweet vintage pluggage. Oh yeah and met the other Dave LaPorte AKA Captain CupCake lol (sorry Dave had to throw that in).

Well.... Let's see now. Some liked it and some didn't. To each his own. First off the stadium is impressive to say the least. The help in getting my chit to the hall was 1st rate all the way between the MSBA people and the stadium staff. I do think forethought would have been a good thing on those who had to relieve themselves and showed up early. Lesson learned. The hall was nice, kinda on the dark side on the side the museum was on though. Putting on a gig like this is a tremendous undertaking and those who squawk usually have not the faintest idea of what stress and pressure the people putting it on are under. One thing to think about is that a. you look forward to it and b. if it were not for the same nucleus of men and women who year after year step up and accept the challenge of putting it on, no matter how big the MSBA Organization is, it would not happen and that would be a shame. Patrick Paquette, even though he looked like he had been run over by a truck, kept his cool and was professional dealing with the small problems that popped up all day. Kudos to him and all the volunteers who run this great show. Stand tall and proud, you all earned it.

Now as for the ner' do wells who stopped by to say hi, it was great! I look forward to seeing all the S-B.COM folks and to those who are staying away and boycotting for various reasons, well your loss not ours. Too bad it has to be that way. I enjoyed being part of the show if only for one day, of course VB's, Eric's and Marty's stuff just shames my pitiful collection and was honored to be able to be aside of theirs. Those guys are preserving history and those who didn't see it missed something very very special. Big Ed, Stan Kuzia ( my hero), Chumbucket, Stiffy, Slip, JohnR, Charlie Cinto, Bob Larson and my old buds at OTW made the day complete as did the rest of the bums I fish with and have met over the years, and you know who are, thanks for a special day.

Some of the treasure I brought home tonight

Boy I started a @$@ storm here, huh!

You foks were right and I was wrong...it was the best show in the world. I can't believe I allowed my opinion to stray from everyone elses. I promise I won't let it happen again!

As for the "What part of doors open at 10 am don't you understand?" Every other MSBA show I attended, we stood in the mall waiting in line. Warm, covered and facilities. Perhaps I was spoiled by last years show or lack of sleep and the wonderful attitude of the Gillette people just set me off....it does not take much!

John, I was there early and did not see you there...I don't think. There was a crowd of people there, none of which I recognized.

Look...I've never organized a show, never partook in "vendoring" and can only compare it with years past. I'm sure it is a difficult undertaking. Cudos for those that worked on it and worked as volunteers. I offered my opinions so that some of the issues could be worked on.

Last year was fantastic...we spent about 5 hours there. Maybe I was spoiled by that one. The 2 years it was in the basement, we went BOTH days, even though it was hot and the light kept going out and the one in the mill was real nice as well. However, I did not get that feeling this time.

Now...as for the free parking, PLEASE DON'T GET ME WRONG, I have no problem paying $15 for a show and I don't think I was complaining about the cost (was I  ) but for a carload of 4, the Springfield was $45, Worcester - Same but MSBA $60. Again, I have no problem with that but somewhere along the lines (I'd have to find the post) it appears someone thought I did. I'd GLADLY pay $15 for last years venue.....again, perhaps I was spoiled last year!

That is all...flame away!

Altough i have never met Bob Thomas. What I have read from him on this an the other place. He has proved to me to be nothing but a gentleman. He simply stated some things he tought could be worked on.Where he had some problems.I think he went out of his way to be pollite about it.If u make someone unhappy in the beginnig of something it is hard to turn them around.i think this is what happened. It is unfourtunate that when he Simply Stated his opinion some have to take it persoanlly. I don't think it was ment that way.Perhaps next yr some minor tweeking of things will go on to make it better.I'm sure it will.

It probably has to do with our insurance policy. It doesn't allow entry until the advertised time for cost reasons. I think most everything went as well as could be expected for the first year in a new venue. The lighting on the feildside of the venue was a little low. And there was quite a bit more room on that side. The only person who couldn't stand up his custom rods was MIKE CC, which was too bad, but afterall Mike blew away the competition in the overall sales department, because as usual the first fifty people through the gates went right to his booth. Like Bigfish said some of the vendors cancelled for what ever reason. Next year I'm sure the place will be wall to wall vendor wise, because the vendors will soon know the date for next year and they'll know where it is. :rtfm: As far as the bar being more full than anywhere else that only occured around noontime time. Before noonhour and starting around 11 a.m. people started eating, and the bar gradually became busier until it started slacking off after one. It wasn't anywhere that became someplace to sit and drink alcohol for the sake of drinking alcohol. I am sure Pat and all of the executive committee will read every word here seriously, not lightly. We care what people see and want from our club. :kewl:

I think the MSBA guys did a great job with what they had to work with. The place in my opinion is not setup for a show like that. Here is what I thought was wrong: The lighting was low in some sections and the ceiling was also low. I almost broke a Quatum rod tip on the ceiling....the rep gave me the harry eye. I thought the very loud PA announcements while speakers were talking was very rud ( 2 or 3 times), they could have waited for the end which was on the ??:30 mark. The show was missing vendors like Penn, Van staal, shimano. Also what happened to the wood turning? The entry fee was twice as much in past years. I also talked to almost all the vendors and most of them were not happy with their setup areas. On the good side it was great to see alot of S-B members again, Some great deals were had if you looked close enough. If I had to rate this show with the last 6 I have made the 3 hour drive for it would rate at the bottom.

don't need a guide or fishin mag's...already know where an how to fish

already have many connections in the fishing game of life

lost my taste for all the hipe, con game's,snow job's an internal bs,game's people play, all that goes on behind closed door's.[wished I didn't know half the facts that I do] now take's away what used to be fun.

I went this am and I thought they did a good job with the show. I talked with a few friends, joined msba, and bought a few things that I thought were pretty good deals. I went witha list of 10 things I wanted and found deals on 3 of them..

There was a table with about 20 abu's on it and I was pawing thru those. Man that 6500 CL is sweet. I asked the guy if he had a wrench for a 6500 sized abu as I don't have one for my sports mag, and he crawled under his display and dug one out of the boxes of one of his new reels and gave it to me no charge. That little gesture made my day.

Then when I went by the S-B table, John has a picture pulled up of some plugs, and they were mine! That was pretty cool!

There was a guy selling undressed white and black smiling bill jig heads, boy were they nice and they were all under 1$. I'm gonna have some fun dressing those.

Now I'm just waiting for the phone to ring, there's a black van staal with my name on it :laugha: Thats the only way I'm ever gonna own a VS :tooth:

Made the rounds at the show and thought it was great. Stocked up on rubber at M&D and some offshiore stuff at the Hook-up. Got there at 10 and there was plenty of room, no lines and plenty of product out. It was a bit dim and sort of narrow on the field side but overall it was a good time.

Nice job to all who were there. I enjoyed myself. Looking forward to seeing more at the RI show next weekend. Got to see the imfamous Canalman and Fishaholic eels as well. SCHWEEET!!!(my woodstove would have been a good trade) I'll go back next year as well, no matter where it is.
P.S. The only complaint I have was the beers were still $7.00!!! But the Harpoon booth was a nice touch!!!! I thought that at the end of the show on Sunday, they would have made the cups bigger!!!!!

It was good to see John, I met ChrisL and btched about expensive pliers and sunglasses when the cheapos do the trick. I did buy some stuff, a Point Jude Tuna-Pac, I saw those last year (at the best MSBA show :hidin: ) but never picked them up.
a bunch of jig heads and some other terminal gear from the guy next to monahans.

MSBA did a great job as always ( the free beer both was huge ::thanks: ), I miss the south shore locations, but I also miss the saw dust on the floor of Building19

Now one thing did happen today, extremely easy load OUT to go home :btu:

Ahh, Steve, I am confused. Seems you don't know as much as you think here. I was talking about a couple certain vendors who refuse to participate. If you remember, I supported your "cause" and still do. You need to learn something as I did long ago, you need to sit back and take a deep breath as there is no one following you, trying emulate you or really needs to. Like I have been told before, don't flatter yourself and get the real truth before you go off half cocked. Now, that being said you can hate me, dislike me curse me and tell everyone who listens I am a piece of %$%$%$%$, who cares? :uhuh: Like in baseball, you really need to learn the players before you can call a game

THANKS all who helped out MSBA by coming to the show and thanks to all who bought raffle tickets :btu: I failed to sell some to stifftip before I left but maybe he dipped into that tight wallet of his before I left;)
Saw some more S-B'ers this AM, got a TT needle:happy: and Danny got a nice PNG roman type swimmer, you made his day. You should have heard the conversation between my 2 kids today when we got home, each one comparing what they got at the show-Dan would brag about lots of rubber baits and stuff he got and all the free stuff, then Jenna came back with " well you didn't get a signed Habs' needle" :p then Dan would say well he wasn't there and back and forth, it was hilarius.Brother and sisterly love :D

I did not get the call on the Arra rod or the msba raffle so I guess I didn't win, oh well, congrats whoever did.

Worked both days in the Rhode Island Popper booth. Met a lot of people from S-B, which was really great. I think all the guys from MSBA should be commended for the show. It was well run and getting in at the beginning of the show and getting out at the end ran very smoothly. I'm sure any of the problems that happened this year will be ironed out for next years show.

Vendors love easy in and easy outs at shows. ;) I've done a couple dozen shows with the Edge from Kingston, MA to Somerset, NJ and it's almost always a nightmare. Good to hear someone figured out how to get people in and out. Nothing's worse then killing yourself all week for a show and then at the end waiting all evening to get out.

I'm mentally preparing myself now for the loading dock battles that are sure to ensue in Providence later this week... :rocketem: The cranky union "help" at the Convention Center leaves a lot to be desired sometimes and there are way too few loading docks.

Glad the show was sucessful and truly sorry we missed it. Just in case, and responding to what Im reading above our decision was not in any way a boycott ,it was just physically impossible to do both shows. Norb just got back from a long trip & I am buzy moving into a new house. Next year(if invited back hopefully) we will be there for sure, wherever and whenever it is held.
Fine bunch of people run this and I feel guilty as all hell that I disappointed them , but I just could not do it this year.

I enjoyed it! Went on Sunday from 10:30-3:00 or so. Easy to get in and out of, clean, well staffed and informative. Enjoyed seeing many of you guys there and picked up a few goodies to boot.

I thought it was better then then mall basement even though it took me longer to get to foxboro. There was more room and the theaters were much larger and more organized to give presentations. Places you could sit down and relax for a few moments with a brew and watch OTW fishing show(s) that were broadcasting on all those flat screens. Parking was excellent and the view was nice too.

Well done.

I'd like to thanks MSBA first for the show. Patrick and ALL the volunteers did one PISSER job putting this together with what they had. Here's how it went NO BS....11:45 get in line in the parking lot... 12:40 next in line, 12:45 at the loading dock. No clue what's going on....these guys swarmed me like freaking bees we had the truck unloaded in 10 minutes onto TWO carts..I went to park the truck....walked back....1:05 I walk back into the loading dock and all my stuff is gone....walked upstairs and it was all unloaded into my space. Holy crap man that blew me away. Nice.
Leaving you got into line I got #8 and was out of there by 5:30 COMPLETE. One volunteer and a extra cart along with all the guys from the booth.

VERY nice job guys. That is the part that stinks...in and out...especially when you have alot of stuff like I did.

No sugar coating guys..

Pros...nice location. Easy access to bathrooms, my aisle was pretty wide and could still be walked through. Easy in easy out-do it like this again and more will be back and will come...Well laid out for navigation too. Seminar room worked out nice too.

Cons...NOT complaining just letting you guys know honestly...the low light problem in the inside aisle. Next year pull the curtains maybe. The aisles in the larger room were WAY too narrow. Not quite the armpit alley of the old basement location but not too far. Food was expensive. I know I know it's the location but still $$$
The walk is brutal when it's cold/windy. That is a long way to walk from those back parking lots to the front extrance.
Ceiling height was way too low. 9' ceilings inside the beams but there are beams over almost every booth so you get the sense there is a low ceiling hight in there. Again not complaining but I had to move my entire display 4' forward to clear the ceiling by 2" and lost a significant portion of my booth which made things harder to move in there most of the day on Saturday. Again not complaining just letting you know. We worked with what we had which was fine.

Too bad also if you didn't get any TV coverage..they were setup at the Foxboro SP station down the street on the way in it would have been a easy detour for the hippo's to pull in the parking lot and shoot some tape....I'll speak with the guys at Ch5 next time I'm in there....Liz Brunner looks better in person and maybe she can do the weather from there :D

THANKS...

Not only to the guys that killed their weekends helping not only in the show but to the guys who helped in the booth all weekend too. Good bunch of guys and some good laughs.

Thanks to everyone for your support this year. Met alot of new faces which was really great. Sorry I didn't get to ratchetjaw with more it was pretty busy even on Sunday.

See you guys next weekend. Feels like it's tomorrow already

Well... On a positive note

We had a great time and learned a lot. Thanks to everyone who made our show a success... sold every single Real-Eel we had now I just can't wait to see what you guys catch on these things. From an exhibitors standpoint I learned invaluable lessons... I learned how hard it is to make an attractive booth... and the best looking booth in the whole place belonged to Salty Bugger.... just beautiful nice work Scott :claps: Thanks to Pt Jude Joe for displaying the Real-Eel for us on the wobble head... which by the way swims "pissah" as mac would say :hihi: and to Habs for his lessons in Plug-dom... all were taken and stored... met some awesome people Like stripahdan from Stripa Tackle and Alan and Jen from Got Stryper Charters... Awesome people all. The biggest thanks goes out to Chris, Patrick and the rest of the msba staff.... damn the naysayers.... that show went off great... we'll be back next year and....... I think I see a ferry ride in my future :hihi:

Thanks again!!

This was my first show and I thought is was pretty good , alittle expensive to get in , and alittle smaller than what I was expecting . But I had a good time . The guys at Bliz Lures where real nice and I look forward to their new stuff when it gos up on-line , Met Hab's real nice guy but very busy . met TG at MD's ( i think that was his handle) real nice guy makes some great looking plugs can wait to try them. I didn't find any "great deals" but that didn't stop me from buying some real good looking plugs.
I got there around 1330 and no problems getting in or parking . It was alittle crowded but I would expect that . But all in all had a good time and look forward to next year .

:claps: a huge round of applause for all of the MSBA membership. Many of which were there everyday including the setup day friday. These were some long days and they did it as VOLUNTEERS. These VOLUNTEERS, put on a great show. Believe me, they tried to please Everyone, which as we know is impossible. Again, VOLUNTEERS just put together and ran a show of this size at a venue of this size. To all the VOLUNTEERS that helped at the show, I hope you came away with a feeling of pride, I did. I am proud to be a member of MSBA, and I am proud to be part of a club who's membership truely cares.. I had over 50 volunteers signed up to work the show, and each and everyone showed up and more than pulled their wieght. Thank all of you :claps:
As for the venue, hmm, personally I would love to take last years floor plan and space and plop it down on Gillette stadium. I certainly agree there are areas were we need to rethink and improve, thus is life. Live and learn. I was much more involved this year, and I had a first hand look at what it takes to pull this type and size show off, never mind doing it in 67 days...

Patrick P. put his heart into this show, just as he puts it into the club. Thank you Patrick, MSBA is lucky to have you as a member....

Went yesterday from about 10:30 to 3:30. This is probably my 5th or 6th show (went back at the Armory in Braintree??) and I thought it was the best overall that I have been to.

I agree with the lighting and ceiling height issues, but I thought the vendors were offering more than in the past.

Also, the seminars benefitted greatly from lighting conditions and a sound system that were far better than past shows. I thought the venue was a big step up from the past, congrats to MSBA.

Unfortunately for me, I could not justify any major purchases, and it was very hard to resist temptation as I helped a friend in the CMS booth to purchase a couple of beautiful rods.

Good work MSBA.

I have been wading thru the many posts in this thread. Seems most are happy with the show, myself included. I sure did hurt the mad money that I tuck away for special occasions.

I did a little to help, (read very little), being one of the “red shirts” that schlepped goodies Saturday morning. Most of the venders came in on Friday, so Saturday set-up was relaxed. As I said, my part was minimal. My hat is off to the many that put in countless hours getting this thing off the ground.

I do have a few observations and opinions that may be helpful for future Expos, at Gillette or elsewhere. Allow me to mention that I have been doing antique shows for over twenty-five years. Hundreds of ‘em. Including some big ones in Atlantic City, NYC, and the DC area. So, here you go...

Bathrooms should be available to early arrivers. At least have a clearly marked area with several plastic houses.

It would be nice if booths were numbered, perhaps even a piece of paper taped to a table or pinned to the back wall with the vender’s name, this would help greatly when one is trying to find the right booth during set-up. At least the booths should be numbered.

All porters should have a floor plan with booth numbers. If time allows, the vendor should have a floor plan mailed to him after he signs up.

The paying public should have a floor plan, or at least a dealer list, that way they know where to head to find there favorite plug maker.

Vendors should be warned if there are things he should bring...like lighting. There were booths that needed a flashlight to see the goodies.

M.T. booths should be offered to neighboring dealers to expand into, or the unused tables should be made to disappear.

Please don’t take the above as criticism. It is just my 2 cents worth. Thoughts that may help in the future. It was one hell of a show. Thanks again to all the hard working MassBass volunteers!
