I bought a morrum cs 7700 (nice reel btw) and noticed that the gear ratio is 4:1. I want to use the reel for jigging the canal but feel that the ratio is too low. Can I buy a new 5.3:1 gear and insert in the reel?? I currently have a black Abu 7500 but like the Morrum's one piece frame. I checked Hatteras outfitters looking for a replacement gear but was unsuccessful in finding one.

You can use it, although your arms gonna get awfully tired and might lose some jigs coming back. Prefer 5to 1 to get jig up and back ASAP.

No option to change gears in Morrum. Used one for two years in the Canal. Too slow, and the C3 will cast further.

Traded back to a C3 for the Canal. A C3 can have Big Game gears installed, but not really worth it. Did one for myself to see, but retail cost for parts is high.

New main and pinion gears, spacer for pinion gear and spool (that's where the cost is).

It can be used -- i used a 140 squidder for many years dredging the ditch. It will build character using it jigging. too slow for the ditch and current with all the new fast reels around you are going to be unhappy. :bc:

I have 2 morums already or i would trade u a OLD Good Black big game for one.A work horse reel.Like SD say's not as good a caster.an like TO says too slow for the ditch.

I have my black BG 7500 and 7000 for the ditch so I am all set there. I guess the reel will be used for non jigging use.

I am no expert caster but I was test casting the reel and I was casting further than the 7500 so the reel isnt that bad for casting.

Those 7700s are sweet, one piece frame, great drag, 3 BB but the only downside is the low gear ratio. If the reel had 5:1 ratio it would be even better.

If it casts further than ur big game something is wrong with the big game.
