View Full Version : parking garage rage
Pete_G 04-01-2006, 09:42 PM 78k miles and 6 years and NEVER has a dent been put into my truck by another vehicle. To say I'm careful where I park (usually in the middle of nowhere) and that I take good care of my vehicles is an understatement. Always hand washed, even in the winter. Yeah, I'm a little obsessive about it.
Careless damage or intentional damage to personal property (especially cars) really pisses me off.
Walked out of the RISAA show this evening after a fun day to find a nice crease in the side of my truck from a truck door. Most vehicles if they open their door into me are greeted by the 2.5" diameter steel tubing my rock sliders are made of, so it had to be a truck. The offender had already left as the Ford Escape parked next to me wasn't quite tall enough to be responsible. This was probably good for me as it has been a LONG time since so much adrenaline has been dumped into my bloodstream while simultaneously having my brain set to break stuff mode. It's only a truck and a night in jail isn't fun.
I had to take a walk around the garage for a few minutes to let some adrenaline burn off before I could even safely drive away. I would have waited ALL night for the owner if the vehicle parked next to me showed evidence of being the culprit. It's amazing to me how often people do open doors into other vehicles. I simply never would, both because it's just a basic respect issue and also I'd be afraid that someone like me would see it and scatter my teeth across the garage floor, which I really wanted to do to someone tonight.
Anyone want to by an almost flawless '01 V6 Toyota Tacoma? Lifted 2", 2 sets of tires and wheels, (32" MT/R's on one and A/T's on the other), $2000 race suspension with 9" of travel in front and 14" in back (not that weak factory TRD stuff), rock sliders, locking rear diff, the works. Driven hard on and off road but never abused and always loved. Scraped up skid plates, otherwise mechanically and asthetically perfect in every way as only someone as mental as me would keep it. Hopefully I can pop the crease out a bit next week or maybe I'll just retire her to off-road only status where I won't care so much about body damage. Right now I can't stand to look at it.
I know some guys think a little body damage gives a truck character, but I'm a bit too much of a perfectionist to think that way. This sucks.
basswipe 04-01-2006, 10:29 PM Well Pete it seems to be not the best of days for some of us.
I can almost picture when it happened. When we got the call a little after noontime and had to get the hell out of there the parking garage was in chaos.
Nothing worse than putting lots of hard work into something just to have someone else screw it up.
BigFish 04-02-2006, 01:26 AM I feel your pain Pete being the owner of a new truck I am paranoid of that one friggin idiot who is going to frig it up because they are careless and don't care enough for their own chit!:wall: Sorry for your crease man!:(
UserRemoved1 04-02-2006, 05:30 AM Yanno this is something that gets me too Pete. People don't care anymore. I see this chit all the time too! If someone hits your car why can't they do like in the old days and at least leave you a note with an apology and a name/address etc :(
John is going to have to shut the grumpage forum down for the first moron that hits Brutus...there will be a major overload of grumpage and I know there isn't enough bandwidth on the entire internet to handle my grumpage that day

I thought of your new truck after I settled down a bit Salty. It was looking vulnerable down in the bullpen on Thursday. I just don't know where basic respect for other people's property has gone.
I'm going to investigate having a dent remover work some magic on it, the paint isn't cracked so hopefully they can remove or at least lessen the crease.
stiff tip 04-02-2006, 06:11 AM thats sucks,,,i saw where u parked .it looked safe to me too, salty i have a new truck also ...i feel for ya brother.....the first one hurts the most..... dave
UserRemoved1 04-02-2006, 06:14 AM yes they can do some pretty decent stuff nowadays Pete maybe they can fix it easy u never know.
That thing looked so sad yesterday morning it sat in that dust bowl for 2 days, looked like crapola, then driving down 146 yesterday it spits rain and leaves clean little spots all over the hood. made it even worse :D
Wait til I cover it with mud :D
Pete_G 04-02-2006, 06:29 AM I thought of finding a mud puddle too. Not much rain lately though.
Anyone else have any experience with Dent Wizard? The hit is right in the center of the panel and the back of it is easily accessed. Hoping for the best...
Striperhound 04-02-2006, 07:16 AM Pete, give me a call on my cell on Monday or when you recover from the show and I can set you up with my paintless dent removal guy. We see that type of stuff all the time and as long as it is not very sharp and deep he can make it look like new. I have him on my lot several times a week removing this type of stuff from the cars we sell.:chased:
Raven 04-02-2006, 07:26 AM sorry to hear that PETE....and ya know....the audacity of the individual who creased your truck....and did the damage created more of a dent to your health...a side effect to the rage,,,,than what it'll take probably to fix it...is what concerns me...
so take it in stride.... don't let it ripple your waters too much....
there's more A-holes right around every corner unfortunately.
i love the smell of bondo in the morning....
i was tellin Bigfish this story about how my brother and i had this racing bug that we sanded so smooth it was like silk.....and the day we get it back from the paint guys shop...we stopped in fairhaven to get something from the auto parts store...and left the beautifully painted blue metalic bug alone for like all of ten minutes and some A-hole had already hit it....and was gone... blew our minds.

It's big enough to notice, definitely not big enough to warrant bondo. Feeling a lot better now, especially thanks to some optimism about paintless dent removal.
Very few things truly set me off, that happens to be one though. I'm fairly sedate and quiet most of the time. So don't worry about my blood pressure. :hee:

Sound great Warren. I'll be in touch, thanks. I feel better now. I think the crease should be removable given it's location and dimensions, we'll see.
This definitely warrants some rare Beachmaster pluggage from my private collection... :btu:
labrax 04-02-2006, 07:54 AM Pete,
That sucks. You are right about the lack of personal responsibility of some people.
The first decent car that I bought was hit a few weeks after i got it and crushed in my rear door. I was on a fishing trip and left the car at my in-laws on a cul-de-sac that no one goes down. The punk teen kid that lived across the street did it or one of his buddies, but I could not prove it. Anyway I can understand your frustration.
There are probably a few body shop guys on this board that can help you get it fixed. A little barter of some fishing goods, and maybe reserving a plug or two in the future that are hard to come by.....
Sounds like a great truck - hopefully after the anger and frustration lessen and you get it fixed you will enjoy driving it again.
Pete
thefishingfreak 04-02-2006, 11:06 PM those paintless dent guys are "ok",,, if they can get it out,, they will... or at least it will "look" better. don't try do it yourself.:whackin:
be advised if it's creased too much the clear will have minute' cracks in it and water will eventually make it to the metal and start a tiny rust spot....or whear there pokin at the inside of the door skin can scratch. out of sight out of mind
but ,, you bieng a stickler,, should keep that from happening with a little bit of wax.
there's a reason there cheaper. and used car dealers love 'em so much :nopain:
inTHERAPY 04-03-2006, 09:26 AM I volunteered the show for 3 days and definetly feel your pain. As chance would have it I have just bought a new gmc personal truck and new toyota business truck. The first 2 days i took the tocoma up, the last day the gmc. Each day I took the license plate, or plates of the neighboring vehicle(s). What I would do if dents had happened I do not know but....
Diamond Tackle 04-03-2006, 08:01 PM Pete
Sorry to hear that. Hope it comes out without too much hassle.
It is really frustrating, esp when you know its someone that just doesnt care about others property. Ive put some scratches on my 2004 1/2 dodge otherwise shes like brand new, but hey they are MY scratches, and I would feel the same if some lamebrain dented it and just walked away. Some people just suck.
Were you parked in the fenced in area below or the garage?
Pete_G 04-04-2006, 06:21 AM 4th floor in the parking garage. Our Uhaul was down in the bullpen.
I feel the same way about MY scratches Tinman. If I put them in it's still frustrating, but it's my fault. If someone else does you get a rant like the above. :hee:
