 Well I sold a bunch of old plugs and bought a new reel. Only trouble is..........I don't read japanese. I have no idea what the instructions say about the shims. Does anyone have any experience with them?

ask Jim

I'd say trial and error, use common sense where the washers go depending on how the line goes on I guess

Add washers to make line stack lower on spool and remove for line to stack higher.

What Dave said, sounds like a shimano?

So...if I leave it as is, should it should stack flat?

Dave

If the reel is already assembled it should lay flat.

To set to wind more to the front:=====>
(Reduce the number of washers on the spool shaft to achieve the way it looks on the first diagram, typically used for hard lines such as florocarbon to reduce backlash)

To set to wind more to the back:=====>
(Increase the number of washers on the shaft)

If it is not assembled use three spool washers.

The information that I've given you is from the stratic 8000 schematic. It should be similiar but you never know.

The other photos look like they show the minimun distance to spool edge.

Usually they already have a few washers installed out of the box. Don't mess with it till you test it out, it'll probably lay flat out of the box.

Those look like those little spacers that adjust the line lay with braid, defidently looks like shimano. Ive never used them on any of my shimano reels, never saw the need. id say just leave it be MAC unless you really see a need to use them.

Dave,

I got my manual semi-translated by a guy's neighbor who speaks/writes Japanese. I still couldn't figure it out.

When you figure it out ( because I know you're gonna tinker with it), let ME know.

I'll be down to see you tomorrow. Need to spool up a couple of spools and get some hooks. :beat:

Mac....

Isn't the Nautil the same way, with the washers I mean? I remember seeing the same sort of picture you posted in my nautil brochure only in English.

Hello

Looks like a Saltiga to me !

I think most people got it right : add a washer, the spool will go up, the line will lay at the bottom of the spool; remove a washer, the spool will go down, the line will lay at the top of the spool.
You've got to find the right balance !

Here is a link on a Japanese Website, in its english version, with interesting links (bottom left) on Daïwa and Shimano reels parts.

Hope this helps !

Where the line stacks up on the spool? Is there an advantage one way versus the other?

They were probably "rent-a-reps" and not Daiwa people.

MAC,

It is on the zziplex right now but later in the season it will be dedicated to the 1209. Doesn't feel heavy to me at all, but then again I do swing a 24 oz hammer at work.
