has anyone heard about the tax break for boat gasoline ( not diesel)? i heard that there is a new tax law that gives a refund on the gasoline you buy for your boat. it seems that that there is a road tax on gasoline and since a boat isn't used on the road we will be getting back .21 per gallon. i will be getting the paper work shortly and i will notify you when it is confirmed.

My understanding is that there is a discount when a trialered boat is brought to a typical gas station. All boats that are filled at a fuel dock don't take advantage because road taxes are not charged but marine taxes are already built into the cost of the fuel.... Again this is only my understanding of this....

i just got off the phone with a guy from the IRS. he told me that 99 % of the marinas and yacht clubs pay the road tax on gasoline. that is good news for us boaters any little bit helps. i have the paper work here but i have no idea how to attach it. john could i send you an e-mail to see if you can attach it to a thread or something. thanks

PS.....wonder if there is another tax break at another level....the total tax on gas is about $0.49, including state and federal.....the $0.21 Kav talks about is only one of those....there's another $0.28 somewhere......

i think there is another rate of deduction on gasoline for any use that isn't for driving on the roads ie. lawnmowers, compressors. it might not be much but they all add up. i hope this helps some of you.
