Lets Here it....................... Change my underwear and keep fishing :D Hard to say, but I think that assuming I was keeping the first, the second would probably swim free.... definetly not sell it though.... jim sylvester 04-12-2006, 08:21 AM call the paramedics to jump start my heart, then burn the spot RIROCKHOUND 04-12-2006, 08:23 AM then burn the spot Dont you dare... :af: :D :D :D :D The Dad Fisherman 04-12-2006, 08:29 AM Back to Back 50's??? I couldn't get Back to Back 50's at an AARP convention w/ a Pocketful of Viagra.... In all Seriousness the second one would live another day...no need to keep her... piemma 04-12-2006, 08:29 AM Probably do what Bryan said.... zimmy 04-12-2006, 08:33 AM release em both, honestly ( assuming the fight didn't wreck em). Then by some extra warm clothes :devil2: . JohnR 04-12-2006, 08:33 AM Probably do what Bryan said.... Yeh, but if the second was a 60 :bl: - Whooaaaa! Rockport24 04-12-2006, 08:38 AM wow, this is a tough one, on the one hand one 50 is enough, but having two would be pretty damn cool too. I guess I would just take a bunch of pics of the second one and let it go. Back Beach 04-12-2006, 08:40 AM Keep both. Get both officially weighed, sell if legal to do so, or mount one if the fish is so big I may never get one bigger. My feeling is a 50 is a really old fish and close to the end of its life.Keeping one won't affect the population one bit. On the other hand, releasing one that big is cool too, just sharing what I would probably do if given the chance. You know me, trust but verify when someone claims to catch a so called "50". piemma 04-12-2006, 08:50 AM Now to John's point if it's a 60 then that's a different story. i know a guy on The Block who caught a 64 about 20 years ago and.....QUIT! So if I caught a 60 I might hang it up and hit golf balls. Nebe 04-12-2006, 08:51 AM Id keep em and set up a one day fish and chips stand on thames street in newport. :hihi: seriously, i would keep the 1st one and release the 2nd, unless it was over 78 lbs.. no need to kill 2 50's choggieman 04-12-2006, 08:53 AM They both swim. The quality of the fillets is lousy and I will not kill any animal I do not plan to eat. Buy a fiberglass replica and forgo the skin mount. fishaholic18 04-12-2006, 08:57 AM I'd keep one and release the 2nd. SAXATILUS 04-12-2006, 09:04 AM If I was ever that lucky they'd swim for sure, A picture lasts a lifetime. I love the feeling I get when I release a nice fish to fight another day. ThrowingTimber 04-12-2006, 09:34 AM I'd release the first assuming it was ok, to swim away. (always grew up being told that was the RULE ) The second I'd be on the fence about, but.... That's a bridge I'll burn when I get to it. I'm out for an 82 ( I blame someone on this board for this), so 50 is like not all there for me.. 50 would be like getting a value meal and they only fill your fries halfway... :laughs: But then again the size dont matter much to me as long as they have stripes :laughs: JFigliuolo 04-12-2006, 10:02 AM If they were in good shape... let em go. I PRAY that if it happened I'd at least have a witness. Then make an appt w/a plastic surgeon to get the permanent smile removed from my face. Skitterpop 04-12-2006, 10:03 AM If I do the Striper Cup.........keep both. Karma should still be ok since I`ve kept one bass in 8 years salt fishing for myself and given away a few to fellow fishers who upon seeing I had a keeper asked if they could have it. redcrbbr 04-12-2006, 10:12 AM I let 2 50's and a 70 go one night...then the wife woke me up:crying: the second one would swim free Joe 04-12-2006, 10:32 AM I don't know - I could easily make 10K from the pictures in cash and prizes. Its a lot like being faithful to your wife - its a lot easier when women don't give you the time of day. DZ 04-12-2006, 10:42 AM Came close in 87 -about 16 hours or so apart. First one went back - second one would have went back except it had a treble buried in its gills. Don't keep any big girls anymore unless they would break my personal best - and even then they'd probably go back. Can't justify it. If I keep any bass nowadays its usually something between 12-18 lbs - plenty to eat. DZ Big Dave 04-12-2006, 11:06 AM If it were during comm season I would sell them, then while at the market buy a bunch of King Crab. If it's not during comm season, probably keep them anyway. wheresmy50 04-12-2006, 11:10 AM You guys must be some serious highliners. I'd never catch back to back 50s because I'd be hauling ass back to the truck with the first one. Flaptail 04-12-2006, 11:11 AM Well, I'd hang 'em both be a pretty cool mount, maybe have Nebe make me a couple glass squids to go with it, you know a chase scene. To each is own, if you already caught yours then you had the chance to feel the excitement and the glow that comes with it. Kinda like two hot blondes at once ( I imagine). If you haven't then I don't begrudge anyone for doing it. I cannot be holier than thou on this, for some reason I feel no remorse when a big fish hits the box, maybe cause it is still in my blood that selling or keeping what is legally yours to do is okay. I had two fish on a darter back in November 1990 at Old Harbor in Sandwich where the first one that weighed 44 lbs, was gonna be kept for winter chow and two casts later beached a 53 inch long fish. I swore it was over fifty and the other was dead but a fifty is a fifty so I kept it too. Problems was it only weighed 46 and change. I have no passion for the "50" thing anymore, sh&t, I am just happy to catch nowadays, if it happens it happens, if it don't it don't. I ain't losing anymore sleep on it. It's just consistently catching that counts to me, anyone who can do that these days is a good fisherman in my eyes no matter if they ain't fifty's. justplugit 04-12-2006, 11:25 AM Thought about it many times, and would hope i would be able to release them. Second would be a defenite release, first would depend on the moment. Prolly just take a pic of the 3.5oz black and purple Habs Needle hangin out their jaws, and win the 2006 Habs contest. :hihi: Nebe 04-12-2006, 11:31 AM You guys must be some serious highliners. I'd never catch back to back 50s because I'd be hauling ass back to the truck with the first one. :claps: :rotfl: hooked 04-12-2006, 11:35 AM I don't have that much free time so I'd rather just catch one 100#'r and be done with it. striprman 04-12-2006, 01:24 PM I haven't cought one yet. I guess I'll have to keep on trying.. damgriz 04-12-2006, 01:36 PM they are few and far between, not many reach the 5o+ mark. i have had a few from surf & boat. so 1 picture is worth a 1000 words. 60+ IT'S A KEEPA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:eyes: partsjay 04-12-2006, 03:17 PM 1st one comes home......2nd swims free. Pt.JudeJoe 04-12-2006, 05:26 PM Let's see if I get 2 - 50's here in Newport? I call my brother to come with his truck and we zoom over to Ct. and get a picture taken by the water over there and send it to the Pro Jo:hihi: zacs 04-12-2006, 05:31 PM I would keep both I would make a sweet duel mount. No doubt about it. I really don't think that keeping one fish that may be the crowning acheivment of my life is going to have any effect on the fishery. Call me selfish, wouldn't be the first time.... :hidin: ScottC 04-12-2006, 05:53 PM Same thing I always do, let them go and hope next year they come back to the same spot and cath them again Rappin Mikey 04-12-2006, 05:57 PM hey Damgriz, can we see those pictures?????  shadow 04-12-2006, 06:06 PM ok I would definetly be keeping one for sure.the second one I would try and release mostly becuase I would never be able to carry 2 back to the truck.:laugha: tynan19 04-12-2006, 06:12 PM Do fish that large school together? The blitz in the 80's all had large bass with multiple 40 and 50 lb fish together. I know it was a different time but what did most of those guys do. Myself, I would probably keep the first one and let the second go. Goose 04-12-2006, 07:33 PM Proably keepum, like your way of thinkin flap except I'm loosing sleep on regular basis Slingah 04-12-2006, 07:38 PM I'd keep both...... tattoobob 04-12-2006, 09:15 PM I would keep both and mount them in a ying yang position then again I don't think it is going to happen to me so never mind thefishingfreak 04-12-2006, 09:43 PM i would keep both and mount them right then and there. a threesome.. Skitterpop 04-12-2006, 09:56 PM I`m out for an 82 You`re young, fanatical, smart, heard a skilled fisher, and making great plugs....why not? Oh....and a nice guy  And stating or writing down the goal helps... I hope you get one Vic! Skitterpop 04-12-2006, 10:09 PM I have no passion for the "50" thing anymore, sh&t, I am just happy to catch nowadays, if it happens it happens, if it don't it don't. I ain't losing anymore sleep on it. It's just consistently catching that counts to me, anyone who can do that these days is a good fisherman in my eyes no matter if they ain't fifty's. My biggest was 42" and a fat heavy mini cow but I agree with your sentiments above.... if it happens it happens. Two hot blondes?????? Mikey Skitterpop 04-12-2006, 10:13 PM Do fish that large school together? The blitz in the 80's all had large bass with multiple 40 and 50 lb fish together. I know it was a different time but what did most of those guys do. Myself, I would probably keep the first one and let the second go. have heard that sometimes big females travel in small pods up to larger schools together :faga: Joe 04-12-2006, 11:07 PM My old fishing partner Ron Olson got a 46 & 48 (pound) on consecutive casts in Narragansett one November evening - I'd say in 91 or 92. At a place frequented by several member of this board. They were on big menhaden but they took an eel. rob-s 04-13-2006, 01:37 AM i allways liked those old days pictures you see, you know the one where two sports are walking up the beach with tail draggers hanging from a long stick. i allways have wanted to be in a photo like that:devil: stiff tip 04-13-2006, 04:41 AM take a pic. then sold to the highest bidder,,,,,,,, numbskull 04-13-2006, 06:07 AM Just to show it is possible, I know a friend who took a 48, and two fish that bottomed out his #50 Chatillion scale from the beach one night about ten years ago. No luck involved, just years of work and a unreal willingness to suffer for his fish. He released them (but has mounted other 50's in the past). Bronko 04-13-2006, 06:35 AM I guess I am with the majority here. I'd keep the first one, release the second. Hopefully #2 would be in decent shape after the battle. Navy Chief 04-13-2006, 06:59 AM Really, I'd let them both go. I have no clue what I would do with one 50lb fish (much less 2). I would like to have a photo, but seeing how I'm a covert guy :hidin: I would have to take the pleasure of knowing that I accomplished this amazing feat. I would not kill the fish just for a photo and my freezer would not hold the meat. ProfessorM 04-13-2006, 11:27 AM Would be a real nice problem to have. If during the comm. season I would sell em, if not I would take photo and release. Flap that would be a real expensive mount. Couple grand I would imagine. Paul Flaptail 04-13-2006, 11:52 AM Would be a real nice problem to have. If during the comm. season I would sell em, if not I would take photo and release. Flap that would be a real expensive mount. Couple grand I would imagine. Paul Paul, I was singing this song while in Cotuit last night casting to invisible bass, "My Python boots was too tight, I couldn't get it off last night, a week went by, now it's July, I finally got it off and my girlfriend cried, you got Stinkfoot! Stinkfoot Darlin', your foot put a hurt on my nose! Need to come see you for a little rheem job on me holders!:rotfl: ProfessorM 04-13-2006, 03:43 PM Here Fido, fetch the slippers. Anytime Steve you know where I am Mon. thru Fri. nites. No fish yet? P. In The Surf 04-13-2006, 04:57 PM Keep the first and release the second and hope I wasn't alone when I caught the second so it would be a witnessed 2 - 50 lber night. Also pray I had a camera to photograph the two together and my smile stretching between them. macojoe 04-13-2006, 05:03 PM Comercial I will be selling, If I got 1 during comercial I would show it off all over the place and took pictures, before I sold. If I got none during comercial season, I would keep the first and release the rest. Backbeach Jake 04-13-2006, 08:59 PM That would be a real nice problem to face. I'll never know the answer til it happens. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
