Well tonight's the night I pick up my new canal rod which will replace the Sabre 1089 I broke 2 weeks ago. I had Mike T make me up a Loomis 108-30. A BG7000CL spooled with 50 LB Cortland Spectron (which was intended for the Sabre 1089) will complete the rig.
I feel real good about the BG7000CL with the 50 LB Spectron. The reel was actually ordered for the Sabre to replace the BG6500CL so I could get more of the 50 LB Spectron on there than the BG6500CL will hold. I've decided to go with the 35 LB Spectron on all the 6500 size reels so I can carry close to 300 yards of line. I'm hoping to get almost 300 yards of the 50 LB Spectron on the BG7000CL.
The rod will take a few trials to see if its my style or not. It felt right in the shop. It has a more powerful a$$ end than the Sabre (believe it or not) which i really like but the tip taper is faster than the Sabre and I need some fish on it to determine if its exactly what I want.
I looked real hard at the Breakaway 1208 and 1209. It was a very tough decision but based on the other rods I already have and the fact that even with the 9 foot Sabre I was regularly trimming the bushes when casting at high tide , I decided 9 feet was all I wanted.
The new Loomis will be just like the Sabre in that its set up with a long but which makes it cast like a 9 footer but fight a fish like a 7 footer.
Just like any other fisherman , I can't wait to try my new toy! <img src="/Images/Happy_Face.gif"><!--e1-->
I'll be getting a replacement Sabre1089 (warranteed). Its the first rod I ever had to put in a warrantee claim on. Since it didn't break do to a defect ( I clearly broke the thing myself) I feel pretty lucky it has such a good warrantee.

I can see it now: Friday 8/25, a maniacal fisherman who goes by the name Saltheart was arrested today in connection with the alleged grounding a fuel barge and tug in the Cape Cod Canal. He was found holding a custom G. Loomis fishing rod with a brand new Big Game 7000 reel loaded with 50 lb Spectron line. As he was being escorted to the car by the Coast Guard all he would say was "It had to be 60 pounds at least I know it it had to be a 60"
