Found myslef awake early this morning....it was overcast and brezzzzy here, as I made my coffee all I could think was, gee, this would be a great morning to get some herring....So drove down to the run to visit them. It was stacked pretty thick. They were swimming lazyly around nosing in the cracks of the cement, resting and adjusting to make the jump to the fw.

Lets hope for a decent recovery.

The other day a I was talking to a friend and he mentioned there is still a 2500# herring by-catch allowed by trawlers. Is this true? If it is I am pissed because I bet we (everyone here) took less then 500# out of that run in total all season.

It's true. I attended the RI CRMC meeting last month and they talked about the by-catch. It's something that can't be avoided because the river Herring (Alewives, Buckeyes) swim with the Ocean herring sometimes and that's where the by catch comes in.

It's all in the terminology. River herrin is a no no...Ocean herring be me guest. These trawlers must stuff the right pockets. This state is so crooked.$23.50 for a trout fishing license, salt wate lic. coming soon.
