Here are a few different jigs I use to make life easier. first is the V block for drilling belly holes. Just center the block under your bit, set the depth (so you don't drill through). It is easier if it is thru drilled first as you can feel the drill bit when it hits the thru wire hole.

Second is a jig that CS made and I copied. The tail piece is adjustable for length. The screw is for doing needles.

Third is a jig I use to cut head slopes on surfsters or pikes. Note I set my sander table at a similar height to my bench. you could use a dowel but I use the same size drill bit as I used for the belly hole. The vise grip clamp holds the tail even with centerline.

Hope these can help someone out a little.

Thanks Mac, are you just using finger pressure to hold the plug in the V Block when drilling?

yes, just be careful to not wear loose clothing as that spinning drill bit can grab you quickly.

What if you used the same concept for thru drilling?

Fitted slide for the vblock then you just power up the drill and slide the vblock + plug forward.

The only issue would be height adjustment, but you could probably do that from the drill side? Or just shim the whole slide length with luan or something thin like that.

I like the drill that I have mounted horizontally. It is easy and you can let the plug center itself.

My jigs are environmentally friendly because they are made out of TIN.
