the price of petro is crazy and goin up .i fish w/ guys that pitch in so it dont hurt as bad to fill up 3o or 40 gal. a day off shore .but i have a flow scan monatoring unit about 14yrs now its great""" when i run to a spot ,i set my tack and trim tabs and watch my flo scan i tweak all 3 of themfor the best rpms,speed fuel eceo. and smoothness of ride ...on average for me its around 22 to 26 mph @ about 8-9 gals per hour depending on sea cond. it also monators total fuel use .. im glad i have one cc. cupecake ps i,m almost ready.... ahab,beckons me:wid: :wid: :wid:

Those Floscans are nice if they work. My buddy has one that hasn't worked in a few years, we have to try to fix it. I think they cost anywhere from 5 or $600. Kind of a high end investment but if it saved you 10 gallons on an offshore trip this year that would be $40, so probably worth it.

A friend of mine told me that you can pretty much do the same thing with your tachometer. I'm sure going to try this year. Although, my 150hp dosen't really use that much fuel. But, then again, any help will be gladdly accepted.

I've got one and I love it. Only took me about 16 hours to install though.....lol.
The second time around will no doubt be easier.

Actually you really only need to use a flow scan once. Once you determine the GPH and MPG over the RPM range, it is pretty much fixed for the life of the boat. Yes it will change slightly with load but not much.
That said, I like them and my next boat will have one.
