Hows about everyone join in with some pics of how it was. Here's my Father in Law, wifey's Uncle Bud, and wifey's Uncle Bill in the early '70's.

Mike, ya crack me up! Side story: I was born at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego. The San Diego Zoo is right across the street. My Mom used to tell me that I was exchanged for a monkey when I was little and acting up. I thought it was cool that I was really living in a zoo. I was a cross between Leave it to Beaver and Huck Finn when I was a kid:shocked:

Fred!
Good idea for a thread. Later this week I`ll hook up the scanner again and post a couple real ones.
I was Huck Finn all the way :hihi:

Best to you,
Mike

Here's one taken a few years back. Check out the sled in those days. We slept on the roof and used all inside space for living and storing the catch before market. 2 wheel drive and rarely had to dig out.:jump: Those were the days!

Hello Karl - that is actually a photo of my Dad - he was a sweetwater fisherman and we had to drag him out, but once out he couldn't put the rod down. Great memories - he died in 74.

Back in the day 4wd was for wussies. My early P-town days, it was a matter of pride not to put it in 4wd and not get stuck. If ya did either, you didn't know how to drive the beach. Mike. how's you and Karin doing?

Late 70's early 80's?? First pic is my dad and me with my first nice cod. Second is me and me grand-pappy. I'm blessed to still have him around. Unfortunately, after a botched brain operation, he is unable to fish now. I learned a lot from him. Today, he not only enjoys to eat the fish I catch for him. He also likes to hear the stories and actually see a fish once in a while for himself. Thats why I will continue to keep a few for him here or there as long as he is around.

Pic with mikey and the cod on the left, you can see my head on the right hand side.
They never took pix of me...I was too busy catchin (not like my poseur brother).

Can't be a "back in the day" unless you got an old codger sitting in front of his fishing shanty. Got his oars and homemade skiff ready and waiting for high tide. The place just disappeared during one of the big hurricanes. Hope I do this right.

A few blackfish pics...
First is my father, circa 1980ish, his Peresonal Best blackfish at 17.5... an absolute moose of a blackfish.. I might bass fish 100+ trips a year but when we go blackfishing, I usually get smoked... and I know how to catch em... I think he smells the %$%$%$%$ers before they bite.... He lurks occasionally as Tautog01 on here and a few other boards...

Second is my grandfather with an average blackfish... OK, not back in the day, but he was a 'back in the day' fisherman. Pic is circa late 90's, one of his last fishingtrips. he was a great blackfisherman 'in the day' and still laugh when I think about his stories... he didnt fish with us much his last few years, but was always willing to dole advice from behind his desk and is sorely missed. Every now and then ,thinking of something (i.e. looking for a new piece of structure) and I catch my self thinking I'll ask Red...) He still provides some MoJo, and his trusty squidder is still always at ready!

Pic 3... Again circa 1980..
Blackfish and Cod... inshore grounds...

Before people go PETA on me, this was the days before bag limits AND this was commercial rod and reel..
I dont think either of us kept more than 4 or 5 blackfish a day last year... just a few fillets then trophy hunting... :rocketem: :tooth:

Nice Hat dude, and you still have not grown an inch!

VB

:hihi:... Hey! I Resemble that Remark :hihi:...
Maybe not an inch in height VB, but the Girth has Suffered ;)

GF.. no on the hat, but it jogged my memory, finding that box of black and whites... I remember that rod :o.. funny, somethings you don't forget... like a dad who worked two, sometimes three jobs, had six sons, and still found time to teach me how to drown worms...

JPI.. not a Ford.. That's "Christine" in the garage :D.. 57 Sport Fury (Sand Dune White, not the Banana Yellow)... I wish I still had the hat, the rod, and Dad's old Hot Rod :D
