No one told you.:wall: They don't call a boat a hole in the ocean you throw money into for nutin. That is why I use my 14' tin boat way more than my 19' glass boat, less cost. P.

If you are not the tinkering type or do not have a ton of money owning a boat might not be for you, But, if you' re willing to do basic upkeep, maintanance can be kept at a minimum. One you start boat fiishing you can't stop, it is an addiction, and to me it is more peacefull, especially since all my shore spots are over crowded.

That's why we have 6 months of winter! Except for Clammer

Otherwise, we'd fish year round.

That's the nice thing about having a smaller boat. Less maintenance.

The boat is in the garage, so no storage costs. Service the engine each year. Wash it off when I come back in. Run freshwater thru the engine.

No anti-fouling paint needed. Low exposure to salt vs. mooring or slip.

Trailer lights and trolling motor plug are my only consistent troubles. That is pretty minor.

There are definitely times I'd like a bigger boat, but not at maintenance time.

I am afraid I will spend more time cleaning than fishing this year!

The novelty will wear off after you crash it into the dock a few times and scratch the prop and blood and guts harden to the finish. Then you can just use it as a boat. Nothing worse than going fishing with someone with a new boat takes 3 hours to clean up after fishing.

The guide we went out with in the 10K islands in Florida this year was psycho about his boat. He had a towel down to clean our shoes with as we were getting in...

This was our first face to face contact with him and I'm thinking, "what are we getting into"... but he was cool after that.

It was a beautiful, immaculate hell's bay flats boat, but it is fishing and its not always squeaky clean.

A few years ago, I fishing the indian river on the east coast of florida with the guide I used to fish with. He had just gotten a new pathfinder and I was his first client in the new boat.

I caught a 20# tarpon and he was taking a picture and saying "you got to christen my new boat"

Then the fish started crapping all over the deck of his boat... I mean all over the place. I said I think the fish is christening your boat.
